Weekly Press Conference: info on Gresch and Calhoun

He wandered into Stock's after a game last year. With the bartender's help, he got the crowd's attention, stood on the foot rail, led a cheer and threw back a shot of tequila. He chatted a bit with us and was on his way. Seemed like one of us. Except for tequila.

You see a way different interaction many of us do then. For one, Simis was in is his arms the entire way across the field nearly in tears. And the "he's not one of us" is plain stupid. Don Read and Joe Glenn weren't born and raised in Montana either.

Agree to disagree. I've not met the guy and he's in his 3rd year. I'm not the type to go seek him out to meet him, not member of QB Club and as PR knows don't go to practices and all scrimmages. But a diehard fan who is around Missoula in a variety of settings that used to produce lots of coach "sightings" that with most turned into a fun conversation. Has he been back to Red's Bar, Stockmans, Mo Club or Press Box since that first win over NDSU? I'm asking but think the answer has to be no or very rarely. Don't have to be a drinker or "bar guy" to show up at places where lots of the most passionate fans spend time. He's a member of Missoula CC and even out there those that have "seen" him say it's usually tucked as far away as humanly possible from someone he might have to talk to. It's weird.

I can't tell if this is a serious post or not... :? Let me see if I've got this right:
You've not met coach Stitt but haven't tried to.

You don't go to any of the places where that might happen naturally.

You think the coach should find you wherever you might happen to be? Does he know that you want to meet him?

During the season the coach should be hitting the bars, you know, where the passionate fans are?

He's a member of a club but never goes? From the club's perspective, sounds like the perfect member!

I think you've got some pretty unrealistic expectations mousegriz!

I don't live in Missoula, but I know a lot of people who do, and they say they see and run into the Stitt family all the time. They are just normal people, and if you bump into him, he'll have a normal convo with you. I've talked to people who have bumped into him at grocery stores, gas stations and resteraunts. He isn't and doesn't hide. I've met him multiple times now, and he's a super nice guy. And I again think the "not one of us" things is absurd. If you ever do meet Stitt, or listen to him talk for five minutes, you'll know, he absolutely LOVES MONTANA, MISSOULA, AND BEING THE GRIZ head coach. He absolutely is "one of us". By your rationale, I suppose though then that Joe Douglass isn't "one of us" either then. He doesn't live in Montana, was only here two years, wasn't born here, and left when his college days were over. SMH.

He lives 2 houses down from my parents. They said he's basically just a normal guy.

Saw him, I believe the strength and conditioning coach, and I believe Semore out at Al's and Vic's after his first year. Talked to him for a minute or two. He seemed nice enough, assured me they would beat the cat's in 2016....anyways, like I said, he seemed nice enough. Listened to me (somewhat) drunkenly explain my connections to UM and my enjoyment of Griz football, shook my hand, and that was it.

He did say at the very end: "I feel good about that that we're going into the 10th week and we're going to have everybody other than the season-ending guys -- just a couple of those."

Maybe I'm unrealistic and appreciate others' observations and information. I do feel Stitt suffers from lack of identification and inclusion with "us" and that he could make more efforts in this regard. This said, I'm a supporter of Stitt, the direction he has Griz going and hope he is extended past this year....and that doesn't change week to week like it appears to with quite a few on EGriz.

Well that would seem a bit inaccurate, if you watch a replay of the game you would see Simis celebrating with Stitt that looked pretty genuine. And I would say Simis played about as hard as anyone on the field.

I caught last part of NAU game on replay the other night. Lots of shots of Stitt near and at the end. His interaction with players (and other coaches) does seem very limited. Lots blowing right by their head coach as game ends with not so much as a pat on the bank. I fully support him getting another year (or more) but the word "awkward" comes to mind when observing his personality and interactions. I think this is one reason many question him as a coach. He's not "one of us" and hasn't made enough efforts in my observation to overcome that.

I have known Stitt since he arrived, via a mutual friend. While I have seen and talked to him many times, I have actually never seen him around town or at anything other than a Griz football event/situation, except when he and some coaches have come to an annual party I have. I like Stitt personally, but I can understand that comment that he hasn't been overly friendly to some or all in Griz Nation. My impression is that the players here now like and respect him, but that he may not be the type of coach that is particularly friendly or buddies with his players. Some head coaches; some aren't. Delaney was very friendly with them, from what I have been told. My impression is that Stitt works very hard and is an X's and O's guy. He's good at qb club situations.
