Weber Vs PSU
The absolute dumbest thing I've ever read on this board. But then, I've got djollieboy on "Ignore", so I miss the majority of his posts. I'm certain he's said dumber things....
I don't know if he has or not... but I just read one... Please fill us in? when did the NCAA pass the 3-shot free throw rule on a common non-shooting foul? I've seen this strategy used at all levels... High school through the NBA and I've been reffing HS ball for almost 25 years... I've still never ONCE seen a free thrower get his "intentional brick" to bounce back to him for the game-tieing hoop. The only thing I might add is, I certainly wouldn't foul with 18 seconds left, there's plenty enough time to respond. But with under 5-6 seconds left... Good Lord FOUL them!!!!!
I'll be a dumb-founded SOB.... I just seen the "foul-when-up-by-three-in-the-waning-seconds" philosophy go down the hsit-hole... Kentucky missed a second free throw on purpose with 4.9 left. The miss bounded to the far corner... Wall grabbed it, but missed an 18-footer and then one of the Wildcats bigs put the carom back in at the buzzer to tie the game, which UK just won in overtime... it left his hand at 0.1... thus I now surmise, the "foul when up by 3 with less than 5 second left" is out-dated and foolish... wouldn't ya know. I've seen it all now. Even with one/tenth of second left, I guess even the best of plans can go awry.In my defense, the color commentator was lauding what a great foul it was.. I guess they should have fouled with 4.8 seconds left tho... Silly boy

With 5 seconds it might be an okay play, but I'd still rather have my team play sound defense and not leave it to chance. But with 18 seconds?? Any coach who fouls up 3 with 18 seconds left would be in the Athletic Director's office first thing Monday morning to turn in his keys and his whistle. That would leave the other team at LEAST two possessions, and more likely 3.

Honestly, I've seen it go bad too many times when there's a last-second trey. A coach will spend 60 seconds designing the perfect game-tying 3-pointer... while the opposing "smarter" coach takes 2 seconds to tell his ballers... hack the dribbler and let's get out of here. But Amen on 18 seconds... a lot of junk can happen.
