My dad is 2-time prostate cancer survivor. Good cause.
Hello all,
Tomorrow night is a BIG game for the Griz, it is also our Coaches vs. Cancer/Men’s Cancer Awareness game sponsored by Providence St. Patrick Hospital.
We encourage you all to come watch the Griz and support St. Pat’s cancer awareness causes. Here are some details about tomorrow’s game:
General Game Information:
· Note: The primary purpose of this game is to raise awareness of men’s cancers and the importance of men getting tested for these cancers. Unlike the TUM football game and women’s basketball game, this game is an awareness game first and a fundraiser second.
· In association with Coaches v. Cancer – our coaches will be wearing gym shoes and powder-blue ties (the color designated for prostate cancer)
· There will be a Five for Five free throw contest where fans can purchase raffle tickets up to halftime for a chance to shoot and make 5 free throws for $500. They will win $100 per free throw made.
· Harley Raffle (Winner will be selected at the TUM Lady Griz Pink Game on 2/16)
· Team Up Montana Men’s Cancer awareness T-Shirts will be available for purchase
· There will be a section in 206 of chairs draped in colored cloth representing all of the cancer colors
· We will be honoring a young man who was challenged with testicular cancer pregame.
· Baby blue is the “color” of the night much like pink is for the football cancer awareness shirt so please wear baby blue in support of the cause for awareness.
Team Up Montana:
Team Up Montana is a dedicated effort to raising awareness and funding for cancer patients in Montana. This year the team will focus on awareness, prevention, education and treatment resources for all types of cancers. Each dollar donated benefits The Cancer Compassion Fund managed by the St. Patrick Hospital Foundation. These funds are distributed locally in Western Montana and specifically help Montanans in need of financial support in their fight against cancer.
Through the relationships established between Team Up Montana corporate partners and private donors, we aim to heighten cancer awareness and prevention in our community through highly publicized events. Events take place all year long and in 2013, the main events will consist of a Men’s Cancer awareness Grizzly basketball game, the lady Griz basketball game, a Radio-a-thon and the Team Up Montana football game in October. Men’s Cancer Statistics:
· Testicular cancer is the #1 cancer in men ages 15-35.
The good news is that it is one of the most treatable types of cancer. When detected early, 99% percent of guys diagnosed with testicular cancer survive it, and go on to lead normal, active lives.
· Prostate Cancer accounts for almost 18% of all cancer cases in Montana. That makes it more common than Melanoma, Leukemia and colon cancer combined.
· Men are diagnosed with just over 50% of new cancer cases in Montana, but men are 35% more likely to die from cancer than women. That is why it is so important to get checked for cancer- early detection is the best prevention.
· To stay in the game, practice prevention and get checked for cancer
