WBB: LG at Northern Colorado

And South Dakota beat them by 13? What a joke.

And again and again and again the coaching staff doesn't play a hs all-american nominee by just merely wasting a full year by sitting her on the bench all game for no reason whatsoever in Adria Lincoln. WTF.

It is hard to be up by 12 at half and lose by 10--that is a 22 point swing. There is something wrong somewhere and whatever it is needs to be fixed quickly. Lady Griz can play a great game and then have a crapper like last night--this just should not happen.

Macs a natural 2 guard, Marx is a 1. Mac is a scorer, and Gena is a leader, and is opportunistic, also a scorer.. I feel we are hurting Macs ability to help our team right now? Her turnovers are obnoxious, and it feels like she is not comfortable in her role? She can score better than anyone, but this year she is not confident at all. I think she is a kick ass 2, but Gena is the 1. Also, if that were to happen where does the rest of the rotation fit in? Just an observation.

Good question, is Mac a better #2? Mac & Gina this game had a combined 8 turnovers, (Mac 5, Gina 3), that amounts to 50% of the teams total TO's. What sticks out there are improvements in passing as guards. Looks like Dani & Carmen had the lead for Assists, just my opinion the Assist stat ought to be lead by the guards? Ball just didn't drop this game!!! Here's the stat's: https://gogriz.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2023-24/northern-colo/boxscore/5665

Chalk it up to an unfocused effort and and bad second half. Bad games happen.
I agree that Mack is a lot more effective and comfortable when she plays the 2 guard position. Gina is a great PG, and the only one we have who isn't injured. I would start her and play her as many mins as possible and play with rotations with the 2-5 positions.
Some Concerns I have:
#5 Post Defense. Seems like Alex P's skill development has been stuck. She is a big strong girl who lately seems unsure how to play. (4 fouls in 3 mins) Are coaches teaching post defense? On that note, watching Carmen get schooled by an off the bench sophmore post was frustrating. ( NC got 27 pts 5 asst from their #5, we got 19 and 6, all Carmen) Carmen played 37 mins,, was she just exhausted?
Adria Lincoln? Hightly touted athlete, all american high schooler, big and strong at 6'1". Is her defense really that bad?
We have a load of talent and I think we will be fine, but I'd like to a jump in skill development,,,ie,, defense fundamentals, decision making, spacing.

Yup, Carmen really needs the big's backup, Dani seems to be taking up some of that relief. Agree Alex seems to be the one we'd hope to get in there a little more. Adria, good question...what is/is not happening here? If Carmen gets injured, or fouls out...what's next? We do have an excellent backdrop of forwards & F/G's....Macy , Maggie & MJ are a force....when on!!

All this talk about whether Konig and Marxen being a #1 or #2 guard makes me wonder, What if Donarsky didn't blow out her knee? She was supposed to be the point guard of the future.

The post position seems to be the mystery in terms of development and recruitment for the LG.

A Lincoln was highly regarded as a soph and her recruitment was heavy early during COVID. High level schools and TEAM USA invites, but the hype of her soph / COVID recruitment was exposed when she struggled to compete in live viewing periods in the later AAU settings so she went from potential P5 to Mid Major. All those early offers actually ended up not being offers after all. Super talented offensively but competitive spirit and defensive IQ could be a real reason she is not playing. She is a natural wing not a post so she has to compete vs a number of players already competing for PT at the 2/3 spots. Could she spell Bartsch at the 4...of course offensively, but defense is what Holsinger is looking for and if she does not want to compete on the glass like Bartsch then coaches would have hesitancy to play her at that spot. Just our 2 cents.
