Conference Champs and NCAA bound in their first year under new coach, Mark Plakorus. For the second-straight Big Sky playoff game, the fourth-seeded Griz won it in a shootout with junior Lauren Costa (Msla Sentinel) kicking the game-winner to give the Griz a 4-3 shootout title win.

I know this isn't a soccer thread... but figured that Lady Griz & Griz hoops fans would respond best.

Congratulations to the soccer team. I have been alittle frustrated that the athletic department did not make a coaching change in soccer the last several years as the program has been in decline for some time now. I equate this to be simular as to when they made the change from Larry Donavan to Don (air) Read. It became alot more fun for the players and the fans.

Well, it does sound very similar to how the LG did in the BSC Tournament last year in winning their three games and going to the NCAA Tournament, so you're not too far off. Congrats LG in soccer!!! About time!!!

I am very excited for the soccer team. Betsy Deurkson (spelling) was one of my favorite people when she started the program and built it into a huge success. She left to spend time being a full time mother to her children. I remember her renting a car in Salt Lake and driving all night to get home to see her kids. What a great testimony.

Coach Mark Plakorus is a continuation of that program and he has the same enthusiasm and skill level. A great coach who is very knowledgeable, can motivate the players and makes the game fun for the girls. He has brought this team a long ways in one year and I think it will only get better.

Congratulations to the Griz and to the coaching staff!!!!

They play Stanford, the overall No 1 seed on Friday nite, Nov 11 at 7 p.m. (Cal time) in Palo Alto. Stanford hasn't lost a regular season match in 3 years.
