Jonathan Smith, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach, came to UW with Head Coach Chris Petersen from Boise State. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator for two seasons at Montana (2010-2011). He was the quarterbacks coach for six seasons (2004–2009) at Idaho under three head coaches: Nick Holt, Dennis Erickson, and Robb Akey. Prior to his tenure with the Vandals in Moscow, Smith was a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 2002 and 2003 under Erickson and Mike Riley.
Pete Kwiatkowski, Defensive Coordinator, spent six seasons as Montana State's defensive coordinator. Montana State qualified for the I-AA playoffs in 2002 and 2003, the team's first postseason appearances since 1984. The Bobcats also beat in-state rival Montana in three of Kwiatkowski’s last four seasons at the school.
Jimmy Lake, Co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach, coached the secondary at Montana State in 2005. From 2000-03, Lake coached the secondary at his alma mater Eastern Washington.
Matt Lubick, Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach, was born in Bozeman. He was a four-year starting defensive back at Western Montana, and he earned NAIA All-America as a senior. After completing his career at Western Montana, Lubick entered the coaching profession as a student assistant coach and academic supervisor, working for his father, Sonny Lubick, at Colorado State in 1995.
Jody Owens, Graduate Assistant, was one of the top linebackers in Montana State football history (2012 Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-America). Owens served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, working with current UW defensive quality control coach Kane Ioane. Owens helped coach linebackers at Montana State in 2015. Owens came to Seattle after having worked as a graduate assistant at Nevada during the 2016 season.
