Yikes!!! I hate snakes! I'm sure most are poisonous too??
Copperheads and water-moccasins r the biggies. The worst part is u can't go swimming in any bodies of water. One friend of mine says they got a great swimming hole in a river by my house but u have to throw some big rocks in it to chase away the water-moccasins. He says not to worry though, they don't come back tell after your done swimming.

Do a lot of people get snakebit?? How does it compare, say, to rattlesnake bites in Montana?
Do they take them to football games?

Wouldn't they snatch those at security?

U should b. I've only been down here about three and a half years but its great. A home away from home. I'm humbled to admit I beleive the people r friendlier in Al also. I just wish there wasnt so many snakes. I'm NE of Hsvl so if I want a taste of Mt, I go to Tn which is very similar.

Hammer you live with wolves, rattlesnakes and grizzlies. You would do fine. I think the worst deaths are when some water skier gets into a bunch of spawning cottonmouths. Even up in Kansas at my grandfather's pond I have found them wound around my rod holder when I went down to check the lines and steal bluegills out of the 5 gallon bucket we kept them in. Just do what I did - go get your dad.

How do u think they win so many games here? People r damn scared when they come here. I've been here just over 3 years and I've my self have killed 4 snakes by myself. One with a meat cleaver, one with a shovel, one with a rock, and a 6 footer I ran over with my truck about 8 times.

Remind me to avoid Alabama at all costs. I'll take 30 below any day of the week!

Hammer,

There was an e-Griz PSA on bringing snakes to the games last October:

Is there anything we can do to ensure this happens?

One of my memorable trips through the south. I was paying for fuel, think it was in Mississippi or Alabama, it was just after dark and this guy comes flying through the door and slams it shut, holding it just to make sure. Next thing I see is a Water Moc slamming off the glass in the bottom of the door, the dang thing chased the guy all the way to the building. After the snake was taken care of, we asked the guy what happened. He said that he just got out of his vehicle and stepped on something, realized it really quickly that it was a snake that he totally pissed off and the race was on. From that day forward, I never get out of my vehicle without taking a look when travelling in the South.

So, these highly poisonous snakes actually chase you??? Never heard that one before. I'll take my chances with the Grizzly bears in Montana!
