Walk-ons

Let me start by saying I rarely have bad things to say about coaches because their job is a hard one... but

I think the coaches are swinging and missing on this one.

Every team I look at FBS and FCS has 8-15 PWO's listed. UM had two and NONE of the coaches showed much love on twitter for them. This is a huge mistake!

Trust me I am not a Montana kid only poster, in fact quiet the opposite. I want the Griz to get the best players they can, but coach there are a lot of dudes out there willing to walk on that could help you in the near future.

Stitt needs to understand that PWO are really important to the health of the team. It appears (check me if I am wrong coach), that you don't give a rats ass about this. Look at how the PWO was treated on signing day.

If true you could not be any more wrong....

I agree with this payton,,,tom Osborne back in the day let anyone who thought they could play for the huskers to walk on.......those walk ons became invaluable to Nebraska's program and the program became known for that.......

So what do we think? Is it Stitt not knowing the way things are at the FCS level? Or that he knows better than everybody else?

Some coaches just don't value walk ons much... because truthfully the odds are long that any walk on even contributes. But UM has a long history of walk ons not only contributing but making it to the NFL.

My guess is UM has several walk ons that are not reported. I just think Stitt takes a "oh well let's see what happens and not spend a lot of time on those slappies". And "if they can climb through and make it then I will be as stunned as anyone."

What happened on signing day with WR Thurber was ridicules. Kid signs with UM and coaches don't even mention the kid and as far as I have seen Stitt and company has not referenced the kid from CFalls at all.

Look, I know of a couple kids that are really good players and willing to be PWO in order to earn a scholarship and Stitt as of yet won't give them a chance. This in my opinion is really dumb. All it costs UM is a slot on the 105 player roster.

I thought walk-ons and preferred walk-ons - since they don't have any official school aid can't be commented on until they are officially enrolled at school. I could be wrong though.

Every school uses the media to get the word out...
PWO do sign an agreement, so I would guess coaches can talk.

If I were to play devils advo, am wondering if Stitt & co might have reservations based on some of what you noted - which is a majority of these kids aren't appearing to stick so their strategy/process doesn't appear to be working. Also, using the 105 limit, & including the two already known, you've got approximately 6 spots left, give or take. Some chatter lately around drop downs or transfers, so the number of possible landing spots is really minimal. I'm also speculating that he's feeling enough heat that he's going to focus on kids who can help now, rather than projects for later.

Not a Stitt apologist, just speculating. I do think he's looking over a shoulder though. So his actions may not be as "typical" as we'd expect.

Agree... just seems really strange the way things are going.
