Vols Coach Available

Pick one. I think most would like to move into a head coaching position. Look for a quality program and poach their assistants. Its happened here enough times, peaple move up.

Hopefully we can attract an up and coming OC instead of a fired head coach.
For the record, Dooley took on an impossible situation at Tennessee, and was unable to turn it around. Here's another article that outlines some of the inherited crap: http://espn.go.com/college-football...ey-tennessee-volunteers-return-another-season

Some excerpts:
Associated Press said:
Dooley had four years left on his contract, which includes a $5 million buyout.
...
Dooley's successor will become the Vols' fourth coach in a six-year stretch. Phillip Fulmer was fired in the midst of a 5-7 season in 2008 and ended his 17-year tenure with a 152-52 record. Lane Kiffin stayed for just one year before Southern California hired him away. Now Dooley is leaving after only three seasons.

Tennessee faces some financial issues as it chooses its new coach. The university's athletic department posted a $3.98 million budget deficit for the 2011-12 fiscal year in part because of buyouts it was paying to Fulmer, former athletic director Mike Hamilton, former men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl and former baseball coach Todd Raleigh.

The football program is on probation until August 2015. The NCAA handed Tennessee a two-year extension of its probation Friday after ruling former assistant Willie Mack Garza provided impermissible travel and lodging for an unofficial visit by former prospect Lache Seastrunk, who eventually signed with Oregon and has since transferred to Baylor. Garza worked as an assistant on Kiffin's staff.
You may recall that Kiffin and his staff piled up a dozen other recruiting infractions in the span of ten months -- that’s what led to the original probation that the NCAA recently extended. By all accounts, Dooley was doing an effective job in cleaning up the program. But he inherited a bad situation with the probation, which -- according to their fan boards -- scared off some prime recruits. Of course, Dooley knew about the probation, but every football coach has to be an optimist and believe he can "fix" whatever needs fixing.

With the big buy-out in his back pocket, Dooley can afford to wait for a better situation somewhere. He sure as HELL won't consider an FCS program out in the boonies.

Well, you never know. He comes from a family of coaches and certainly would put UM back on the map of college football if someone in administration would give him a call.

It depends on if Dooley wants to keep at it, or take a break.

In my opinion, the $5 million buyout to him, will not make $ as big of a factor. It sure would not hurt to check his interest. Then again, any FCS job will only be a job to prove himself and better his resume. I would be surprised to see more than 4 years from Dooley.

It would be nice to have a coach with SE and Mid Atlantic recruiting ties though.

It also depends on how much speculation there is on our own program. Others have said NCAA still investigating us. I doubt it. Would he want to try to fix another program?

so you want someone who coached his last two teams to losing records to come in and take over the griz?

geez.

How about Norv Turner? LOL.

When a head coach like Turner has failed everywhere he goes why would anybody want him as a head coach?

He has already proved he is mediocre at best and pissed away more talent at San Diego than anyone can imagine. He is a proven quantity just like Jason Campbell yet he keeps getting back up spots and now is starting for the Bears on Monday night.........he will lose because that is what Jason Campbell does he did it at Washington, he did it at the Raiders and he will do it in Chicago.

People that wait around wanting another shoe to drop and then magically an inaccurate QB becomes accurate, a proven loser coach starts winning are people that have accepted mediocrity and the reason this country is sliding into the shi*ter.

GEt somebody, ANYBODY that has an upside that isnt predictable. That means Dooley can stay in the SEC with the rest of those over rated teams that never travel to play anyone outside their conference.

Dooley is a young, coach that would bring talent to the Griz like never before. Sure it is a long shot and critics can rave in their normal negative manner, but why not?
