The discussion on the San Jose State and Cal State Fullerton boards seems to indicate that Boyd is down to those two schools. There is no mention of Montana. Of course this is simply message board discussion  so who knows if there is any significance to this. One of the Cal State Fullerton posters said Boyd visited there in the last day or so.
I think Tinkle is done recruiting unless someone quits/transfers

per sudzilla in another recruiting thread, "Griz are hosting a Pac 12 transfer next week. 6' 9" post.." so you doubt this??

No I do not doubt it, but out of the loop this week (in Seattle). my thought were based on full scholarship limits (actually 1 over) and I am/was being told Tinkle was not "cutting" anyone.

It seems strange that they brought in a wing earlier(Dimakos) on a visit. This sort of led me to believe that someone might be leaving. Of course, I am always "out of the loop", so who knows? :?

If new recruit Chris Kemp plays as billed (which is key, of course), then the Griz are SET for next year. This will be the team, please remember, that secured key wins without WC & MW to clinch the Big Sky Title down the stretch and, with Kemp, gives Montana more competitive balance 1-through-5 than I've seen over the past 10 years or so.

Solid at point! Returning the Sky's MVP at the two! And possessing an explosive group of the best wings I've ever seen at UM (what a battle that will be!). The only remaining questions for me are:
1. How do Montana's bigs, with the addition of Kemp (who's 2 inches taller than Ward), shake out at 4-5? And...
2. What impact will the incoming true frosh Mario Dunn have on the backcourt? I think he'll be a factor.

I'll say it right now (you can hold me to this if it matters): Jake Wiley is very close to a major break-out season (not "if," but "when") at the four, probably, and when he does -- assuming no unexpected injuries elsewhere -- Montana will be very, very good.

We don't need any more recruits for next year.

anybody who sat in on the montana-syracuse game came away with two fundamental truths: a good big team will always beat a good small team; and height and athleticsm are no longer mutually exclusive. two of the best players ever to don grizzly duds--cherry and jamar--were rendered helpless by the taller, equally athletic orangemen, a lesson that cannot be lost on our coaching staff. in the four best showings by montana at the big dance--utah state and ucla (1975), nevada and new mexico more recently, montana had quality bigs--mckenzie, strait and qvale. we've got to get bigger, and adding one 6'7" guy to the same roster that got blasted by syracuse is not going to do it. if we can get another quality big at the expense of an athletic smaller guy who shows up on the police blotter but not at meetings, i'd do that in a heartbeat. oh, and it's not just syracuse. weber too. they got lucky with lilliard, and they may have got just as lucky with bolomboy. this team is really going to be something the next three years.

hope griz journal is right about wiley. the development of him, martin, gregory and possibly weisner will be critical to our success next year.

you know i'm a big mario dunn fan. i think he'll be even better at the college level for two reasons: he was overshadowed in high school by jabari bird, a human-highlight-reel going to cal; and in the last several games, owing to his jumping ability, he was playing on the wing on offense, where his true skill as a point guard was diminshed. at montana, he'll be a point, period.

problem with mario is, he's a high-octane, ultra-quick super-leaper, a la ty lawson of the denver nuggets, and he needs to be in an up-tempo offense. if he walks-the-ball-up-the-court-and-passes-the-ball-around-the-permiter-and-around-the-perimiter, we will have squandered his talent. this kid can fly. we need to adapt an offense to him. we have the athletes to go with him, and i hope tinks and his staff open the throttle on offense the next few years.

finally, a prediction on will cherry. that diastrous syracuse game, combined with the so-called "disturbing the peace" arrest (cops always throw the book at you, hoping at least one charge will stick) have likely killed his chances to be drafted. but one team will give him a look a good free agent look, and that team will be the blazers, on the say of his bud, damien lilliard. lilliard's got clout now, and is loyal to his own.

Cherry was not going to be drafted even before the Syracuse game and the arrest. And Cherry is no Lillard when you translate their games to the NBA...not even close.

a stellar game against syracuse would have boosted cherry's chance of being drafted. he had shown up on one early mock draft.

i did not compare lilliard to cherry. i simply said i believe lilliard will see to it that cherry is given a tryout. cherry will make of it what he will. coaches do love defense, and players who are committed to it. i can name several nba players who are there for defense, not scoring.

Ci-tay, you are on the money saying that the Griz should open-up the court and use their great athletic smaller players to push the tempo. When you are smaller than 90% of your opponents, you need to speed-up the tempo to exploit the advantages that you have. For some reason, Tinks does not seem to believe this.

Hmmmm...very interested to see how this shakes out, especially considering we are currently over-comitted.
GO GRIZ!!!

You are never really overcommitted when you have one or two marginal players who, for whatever reason haven't developed. With 13 schollies, a coach had better take advantage of opportunities to improve your roster any time you can.

True, i just don't like taking scholarships away from players unless there are off the court troubles. Emerson could've been informed that it may only be a 1 year scholarship depending on circumstances, which would leave us fine as roster currently is. If we were to add another player then it could get tricky. Would love to know who the visiting transfer is, but oh well. In Tinks i trust!

Looked over cbssports transfer list(updated may 3) and only found 3 pac-12 big men transferring that were'nt committed

Geoffrey Frid 7' 1" rs frosh center from cal
Martin Breunig 6' 8" soph forward from washington
Angelo Chol 6' 9" soph forward from arizona

2 of 3 make quite a bit of sense considering location and the monty connection. The breunig name sounds real familiar to me don't know why. Did we recruit him out of high school? My personal choice would be Chol, being a tar heel fan i know Roy offered him out of high school and if Roy wants him i want him. Could be a pipe dream as he is linked with san diego st and that is a heck of a program right now.

This is something UM has not done a lot of, but when you are trying to elevate your program then you better take advantage of the opportunities at hand.

Well the player visiting is your 1st choice. It would be beyond awesome to land him. :thumb:

Here is a question or two...is a kid that scores one point a game in the PAC 12 as a SO a sure fire star for us as a JR? If we land him,he and Martin will be playing the same position in the same year in school. So, are we really wanting to put the breaks on a kid like Dunn in order to have two centers in the game? If this dude is a future star, why is he falling to us? Why are none of the teams he played against beating down his door to pick him up?

Just a few questions that popped into my head as I read through this thread. Does not sound like anyone has actually seen him play so I guess I am confused on how we go from that to pulling out the anointing oil, as Bill Parcels would say.

Not trying to be a buzz kill there and I too will trust in Tinks. Just not sure I personally am ready to give up on Martin.
