Vince Young 2.0

Well-known member
I had visions of Vince Young watching Clifton McDowell running the ball. Very patient…then up the field as he clears the line.
He had a nice throw that was called back on a holding call.

One of the only big athletic QBs I have ever seen QBing @ UM.

I had visions of old ISU QBs from the 90’s and Vince.

Big kid that looked like the best athlete on the field against Butler. 80 yards rushing and only played part of the game. What a spark in the second half.

Good lord.

I do love having him as an option two to turn to when the offense is stalling.

But Vince Young was the best player in college football. Let’s calm down

Vince could also throw the ball. McDowell is a running QB; his career completion percentage is below 50%.

Clifton McDowell is the 2.0 version of Vince Young, college football HOF'er, national champion, 3rd overall pick in the NFL draft, and one of the great running QB's of all time.

Yes. Run with this take.

Everyone complains about his passing. The kid may have a completion rate of 50%, but that doesn’t mean he cannot throw. Stats are often misleading. Give him time to learn the playbook and let’s see what he can do. Also, he is the most confident WB I have seen for UM since JJ. Wants to be on the field. Has great energy and the team seemed to feed off his energy. Helps to have that oline push. I think he will be a force to reckon with as the season progresses. Vidlak will be fine as well

Undefeated as a starter even though some thought he couldn’t throw.
Cliff is a big player who can take a hit. Vince Young he isn’t, but a big change from several QBs at UM who couldn’t survive the FCS playoff’s physically.
Cliff can throw and has a nice patient approach as he clears the line of scrimmage finding a lane to run.
He has blossomed this season under this staff.
Hope he can continue to prove the doubters wrong.

The only parts of this thread that have aged well are your posts. He's got 95 completions in 155 attempts (61.3%) with 1 interception, 9 TD's passing, 7 TD's rushing, with 1307 passing yards and 565 yards rushing. And, in my opinion, he's gotten better every week (he was 77% passing in the MSDUI game). He's a gamer and I'm so glad he decided to come here.

McDowell is a good passer and a excellent leader. He throws the ball away when receiver is covered, he lets receivers know what they should be doing. He will lead this team to the championship.

From the get go…the rest of the team responded well with him playing.
Hard to not like the kid who is always smiling. I am glad he got a legitimate shot and made the most of it.

Well, this aged like milk.

6'4" 225LB FCS QB who can put the team on his back. Furman wasn't the best Griz performance of the year and Bobby said the Griz made one more play. Who made the play? Cliff and White our Canadian connection made the catch.
The run game is more important now than any other point of the season. The Griz RBs did not do what was needed, Cliff out performed the entire RB unit in the rush portion against Furman.
Cliff is unique in the FCS as per his size and skillset, he is the most important player for the Griz who does what is needed to win. Not a stat guy in passing or rushing...just gets the win.
NDSU will be game planning to take Cliff out. Will Cliff continue to rise to the occasion?
Bergan can be avoided to limit his touches in STs. Cliff can not be avoided, he will get his opportunities.
I hope the Griz RBs step up and take it personal with the lack of production last week. The OL also needs to step it up no matter who is playing. The Griz defense has players on all three levels and many think the secondary can be exploited by the Bison. Bison will get some rushing yards, but can it be limited? Can the Griz defense clean up the mental errors to limit the big plays?
The one constant is Cliff and his ability to make the offense better with him on the field.
Cliff is a big man and get's the job done...he is undefeated as the starting QB for the Griz. Thanks Cliff for a great year.
The Bison are going to attempt to attack and run over "The Cliff" and they will find out the danger in being herded over the Pishkun, "The Cliff" may look appealing...the fall and eventual sudden stop at the bottom will make WA-Griz stadium the site of the Bison "deep blood kettle"...the death of the 2023 Bison's season. The Griz can smell blood from miles away and today the Griz are going to feast on Bizon.
