Vernon Adams gone 3-6 weeks

Yes, VA is out 3-6 weeks, and could very well likely be back for the EWU/Griz game in Cheney. If so, he will more than likely not be 100%, maybe even close to 75-80%, I'm just guessing there. But I guess my point is that you just saw him at his WORST in the ISU game for 2 and 1/2 quarters with a broken foot and how did he fair? He still did his thing, scrambled, threw TD passes and won the game in the end. After 4-5 weeks of rehab and rest, he'll at least be better than he was in the ISU game. But for now, it's up to Jordan West, and the rest of the team to win out against very weak teams in the BSC, if there are really, LOL! You can't replace VA, but am hoping Coach Baldwin can bring out the best in him as he ALWAYS has in his QB's. Hoping we both meet undefeated in this game. Good luck to JJ in a speedy recovery, we want to see the best vs the best in the match-up!

This is a good post. I don't why it is so hard for some posters (especially some Cat posters) to admit things like this and then go on to say that they "hope" will happen with the back-up and team. On the other hand, I do get a chuckle out of the "our back-ups are better than our starters" posts. While you may be right that Ida St may be Adams at his worst (on the field--as he's obviously won't be effective when he's off the field and not playing), I will point out that it can be easier to play in a game when you're hurting but can still play (because you don't know how bad you are hurt), than it is in a game when you're coming back from an injury, still hurting a bit, lacking some confidence that the healing will hold, and have not been on the field for month. There are confidence and psychological differences, as well as practice/conditioning differences.
As an example, my nephew, a college corner back, played the last 4.5 games of a season with a completely severed ACL. He knew his knee was hurt bad and swollen, but he was still able to play on it with huge pain and lots of limping between plays. He has naturally tight knee so the trainers couldn't tell exactly what was wrong due to inconsistent symptoms, and he avoided getting an MRI right away. After the MRI results came back after 2.5 games showing the severed ACL, and despite playing with a brace after that, he said it was harder to play because he knew that the ACL was gone and less confidence in his ability to cut.
He may be "back" in 3-4 weeks (if everything goes perfectly), but he won't truly be back to his old form for a while after that. It is impossible to spend 4 weeks in a cast/boot without having some deterioration in the are affected. The strength in that foot won't be the same, and there likely will still be considerable stiffness and soreness. Then there is the mental side of worrying about injuring it again.
I hope the kid gets back to 100%, as soon as possible, as he is a special talent. But to tell yourself he is going to be "back" in 3-4 weeks is foolish.
See Rob Gronkowski. And that was an arm. VA's entire game starts with his feet. It is hard to run or throw without them being healthy.

I do feel bad for VA and wish him a speedy recovery.
As for the debate at hand, no matter how good technically the backup is, no matter how well he is prepared by the coaching staff, his lack of game experience will be a big problem in EWU's next two to three games. After that he would have enough game experience to be able to read what the defense is throwing at him and I would guess be much more productive. By the time the Griz get to town I would be fearful of a healthy Mr. West in that system. If I were an EWU fan however I would be concerned over the next few games.
As for VA, I would be interested in knowing which foot was broken. Looking at that X-ray that was posted a few days ago and assuming that is VA's foot, the location of that break will cause some problems for the rest of the season, particularly if it is his plant foot and when he has to run and cut on that foot. It appears to be a compound fracture and even though the bone may knit in the alotted 3-6 week time frame he will be far from fully healed. I'm no doctor but most of the past 30 years I have been involved analyzing various injuries, including foot and ankle injuries from a work related perspective. Given the job that VA does it may take more like 8 to 12 weeks for him to be what one would call fully healed. That is not to suggest that he won't be playing before that, just that he won't have all of the abilities he rely's on before that. His ability to run and cut will be impacted far more than his passing. I would still take a VA at 70-80% than a good number of qb's in the BSC. His ability to adapt to virtually any defense just amazes me.

Bones were aligned after break so it bodes well for a quicker recovery. Earliest he see's the field is UND before the Montana game, but thats best case scenario. You never know with broken bones. Eastern will have their next 3 without him for sure. At least they didn't have to worry about him and his condition at flagstaff this year, I know it was a concern...
Hope he's back and healthy soon.
