CHEYENNE, Wyo. - University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan is giving his full support to football coach Joe Glenn.
"Joe Glenn is still UW's football coach, and we expect him to continue to be in the future," Buchanan said Wednesday.
After a 4-1 start the Cowboys (5-7, 2-6 Mountain West) lost six of their last seven games.
"I think we're all disappointed - no one more so than Joe - at the turn of events this season," Buchanan said. "I'm also confident that he has made a few internal changes. We will be back next year, and we'll be back with Joe Glenn as the next football coach if I have anything to say or do about it."
Buchanan said Glenn is "a class act" and a "first-rate coach."
"He is the kind of athletics coach you want to have your sons play for," he said. "He understands the balance between athletics and education. I think he runs a first-rate operation. And he's committed to winning.
"We're not there yet. We struggled this year. We're in a very competitive, tough league. There's nobody in the state of Wyoming more committed to seeing the Cowboys win on Saturdays than Joe Glenn. And I'm confident we'll get there."
Glenn has been the head football coach at UW for five years.
He fired his offensive coordinator Bill Cockhill last Saturday, a day after UW lost its final game of a season that saw UW struggle offensively.
At the beginning of this week, Wyoming ranked 108th out of 119 schools in both total offense and scoring offense.
