Not a bad week, with three games between ranked FCS teams. However, one of those is EWU at #17 Jacksonville State. As you may recall, I avoid Big Sky games because many people vote against the team they hate the most, rather than whether or not an upset is credible.

After the ranked vs ranked, it got harder to find likely games. I ended up with some that are possible only because the underdog is playing at home. Last but not least, I decided to let people pick on Tennessee, if they want to. Things are grim at UT and Chattie has shown some good flashes, so I think an upset is within the realm of possibility.

Rules: Underdog on the left, two votes allowed, can change votes later.

Disappointing: No one has explained why they made certain picks.

Oddly enough, my two picks currently lead the poll … so here’s my why.

Yes, North Dakota got pounded on the road at NDSU, but so do most teams. But before that, they beat the crap out of Drake (as they should have). Meanwhile, Sam Houston made New Mexico look bad at their place. But then, UNM is bad, so I’m not sure we learned much. Then they ran the score up, at home, on a pathetic NAIA opponent. So I’m not sure SHSU has been tested enough to go on the road and win at North Dakota.

Richmond lost, as expected, to a decent FBS opponent, but then pounded Jacksonville 38-14 (and the game wasn’t that close). Meanwhile Elon lost to an okay North Carolina A&T team, and then struggled with The Citadel. I think Richmond wins easily at home … and might win going away.

I know it’s not one of the options, but I sure hope Eastern takes care of business. While I hate Eastern as much as the next guy, we need them to play well and win to represent the conference. The better the conference does the more teams will get into the post season

Here’s my take: I think EVERY Southland team is perpetually overrated, thus the UND over SHSU pick. And I think Elon is another team that gets an unnecessary amount of love for a couple of good years....they’re always ripe for the picking.

Blue Hens to upset Bison after long road trip. They have to lose sometime. Don’t they?
not this one. they have 3 road games I think are toss ups, Youngstown state, south Dakota state and northern iowa. I don't see them losing all 3 maybe 2, bison have a very young team this year. watch out tor the next 3 years tho.

UT is not losing to Chatty. I know things are bad in Knoxville, but they ain’t that bad!

Well, it's certainly not one of my upset picks. However, of all the play-up games, it seemed to be the one with the best chance. (Next in line might be New Hampshire at Florida International.)

Apparently five people disagree with us. Or they (for whatever reason) hate the Vols so much, they're picking on that basis.

Mildly surprised that more people aren't voting for the Towson-Maine game. Based on the rankings, that looks like a "pickem'" matchup, and the home field should not make that much difference.

Neck and neck between the North Dakota and Richmond "upsets."

Note to OreDig: Now 7 voters are picking the upset of UT (or they just are "agin" the Vols  ) And it's being shown on the SEC Network :o

Went with Nort Dakota over SHSU because long trip for them and I don’t think they’re that good. Went with Towson over Maine because it’s a toss up kind of game.
