Really debated whether or not to do an “Upsets” poll this week … with only two ranked-vs-ranked matchups and a lot of other ranked teams playing (more or less) cupcakes. That was made harder because (as you should recall) I don’t include Big Sky games. However at this stage of the season, some games are crucial for the conference title, and the favorite is playing on the road.

As usual, three choices allowed and you can change them later if you want to.

As I said before, there are a number of crucial games tomorrow … at least in the sense that conference leaders can’t afford to stumble.

But perhaps the most interest situation is in the CAA. There, five teams with just one loss are tied for the conference lead. Two of those face off – Maine at #15 Towson. Of the remaining games for one-loss teams, Elon has the toughest matchup, but they at least get Rhode Island at home. Delaware is at Albany (2-6) and JMU goes to New Hampshire (2-6) … upsets being possible but unlikely.

One of the five leaders must lose (Maine or Towson). Even one upset among the other games would leave three one-loss teams leading the conference. What makes this all the more interesting is that several of the current leaders face each other the rest of the way. By my reckoning, the final champion in the CAA could have two conference losses.

IMO this season contains too many “upset” Griz fans and too many guesses about what the problems are.

Bobcats suck; will root for Dartmouth for PR.

GO GRIZ! :egriz:

Rhode Island, Samford and Mercer. I miss coaches like the Bowdens I suppose, and that's why in a way I hope Dabo lets Clemson hang 100 on a certain positive role model as another topic...

Well that means I get to cheer for Princeton because of Bill Bradley. One of the nicest, true gentlemen to ever grace the NBA and Congress ever--and don't say anything about it being a different sport!

Never met Mr. Bradley, but saw/read a number of interviews he provided. Totally agree ... if there's a dictionary listing for "truly decent human being," Bradley's picture would be there.

There really are great people who are also decent humans. Although I was young when I met her and didn't really know who she was, Jeannette Rankin was of the same bearing and presence as was both Mike and Mrs. Mansfield for that matter. Wish we had more coaches from the same mold as Bobby Bowden, so go Samford!

Aided by two pick-sixes, UNH leads JMU, 21-3, at the half. Other than that, UNH hasn't done much, so it'll be interesting to see if the lead holds up.

Edit: Hmmm, New Hampshire scored first after the half. The plot thickens.

An amazing weekend for upsets in FCS football.

Besides the "bonus" upset of #3 James Madison by New Hampshire (2-6), four of the eight games I put in the poll turned out to be upsets. And a fifth could still happen: Unranked Lamar leads Central Arkansas, 38-24, with about 3 min left in the game.

Game over ... #19 Central Arkansas loses.

Eight ranked teams lost, including two in the top-10. Just FYI: Northern Iowa beat #14 Illinois State and could well move back into the top-25.

Well, so did I ... with I-Word and Maine.

But when five of the eight possible choices did turn out to be upsets :o ... lots of people had chances to get it right.
