Tough week to find enough reasonably plausible upset possibilities. We do have two ranked-vs-ranked matchups and some other intrigue, but you have to stretch some after that. Still … I left out the James Madison game last Saturday because an upset looked so unlikely. Then the Dukes coughed up six give-aways and managed to lose after all. (“That’s why you play the games.”)

As usual, no Big Sky choices, three picks allowed, and you can change later.

Commentary:
Part of the intrigue is the matchup of two (5-4) teams … one of them ranked. But Indiana State is at home and the loser will have five losses, so desperation is in order for both teams.

And I would not normally include a (3-6) team – even if they were at home. But who knows what Northern Iowa might do?

Same goes (kinda) for the James Madison game. We just saw JMU lay an egg, while URI could play their way into contention with a win. Which way might that go?

Last but not least, there’s Murray State. They looked unbeatable for awhile, then the wheels came off. Can they regain their form at home?

There are, of course, actually three ranked-vs-ranked games this coming weekend ... with #4 UC Davis at #5 EWU.

Anyway, a check of possible broadcast stations has so far failed to find any of the ranked matchups. Hopefully, that will change.

Youngstown State off to a good start against UNI, 14-0. But there's still a long way to go, with about 11 min left in the first half. YSU has the ball, according the ESPN tracker ... would have loved to find this one being broadcast somewhere, but it's not worth the hassle of streaming.

Another big upset, which apparently makes a mess of the standings in the Ohio Valley. Murray State upset SEMO, 40-38, apparently on a late KO return. Lucky #1: That was one of my picks. #2, we recorded that game so we can watch it later. We were not watching live.

At the moment, my other pick, Indiana State over #23 Illinois State is looking not bad, 28-17.
