If Utah to PAC 10 qualifies for this forum, so does this topic. Besides, the Sports Forum is dead (check out # of users, right now, or anytime. eGriz needs a Former Griz forum). What brings this on is that some in the Utah thread poo-pooed the idea that UNLV (BH) could be a PAC 10 team. One ridiculous comment was UNLV couldn't because it's a commuter school. Read this article:
http://today.sportingnews.com/sportingnewstoday/20100212?sub_id=irEpGE4XvQ4N&folio=CGI#pg25
Note that the article does NOT discount UNLV going to the PAC 10. It DOES discount schools like Boise State
, BYU
, and Hawaii, as well as Calif. schools like Fresno State, San Jose State, etc. Note, also, the article emphasizes TV revenue as the chief consideration of PAC 10 officials. (So where does "commuter school" fit in here, DJ?) UNLV going to the Pac 10 or anyplace else won't happen until UNLV finishes in the top 3 in the MWC, let alone #1. Now, BH going to a Pac 10 school, that's another matter.
My question is why in heck anyone would want to go from the MWC to the PAC 10? (Ok, my bad: "It's the TV money & a national audience, Stupid!) On the other hand, if the MWC could get AQ status for BCS bowls, that could reduce the desire to move to the PAC 10 (or 12 Pac, as the article has it). The MWC is obviously more competitive than the PAC 10, as recent bowl victories of MWC teams over PAC 10 teams prove.
Another question: Why in heck would UM want to move from one graveyard conference to another graveyard conference (the WAC)? As far as moving to a FBS conference, I still don't think UM has the bucks to do it & should find better competition with other FCS schools.
