Uniforms

Not that it really bothers me, but I always found it strange that the mens basketball side doesn't have any nike logos on their uni's. The lady griz do, as does the football teams and so on. Are their uniforms even made by nike?

Also, I understand this is their second season with the current uni's, how often do they get new ones?

They are Nike - well, Jumpman technically. The logo is on the shorts:

I thought I saw that. does anyone else find it weird that all they have is a tiny jumpman logo on their shorts? or am I just making a mountain out of a molehill here?

ozzie, you are on to something important. style is everything. oregon knows it. so does our football team. just check out how much time is spent on the football board speculating and discussing new unis. if i were running the basketball program, i'd make damn sure the team was in style. i'd even call comme des garcons and armani. are we stuck with nike?

style even extends to the way a team enters the arena, and the way it warms up. did you see the way northwestern came out for their gator bowl game against mississippi state? i was a little kid at the tail end of the bill russell era, and the great celtics WALKED onto the court. like they were entering a boxing ring, ready to rumble. the game was over right then.

anybody who follows this board knows what a big fan i am of wayne tinkle. he's upgraded montana basketball, and sanctified it with class and graciousness. i do wish he were more a style dog. so our unis were smart and eye-catching, not drab baggies, and our team ran its pre-game warmups with more snap and precision. college basketball is no longer just a game, it's a product--a product to be sold on television. and like any product, it needs to be packaged properly, with panache.

no, we're not talking molehills here.

Absolutely agree, Citay! The game college basketball has become one of the premiere sports around the world. There are approximately 370 teams playing Division 1 basketball as compared to well under 200 playing Division 1 football, (FBS & FCS combined). As everyone knows the BSC is not going to break into the top 10 basketball conferences any time soon. They need to do something different than all the other conferences they are bundled with and that could start with an upgrade in the marketing of the product they do have. In my opinion the entire conference needs a makeover.

I don't think the logo of the supplier is that big of a deal. However, it is somewhat unique to be sponsored by Jumpman. I believe the only other schools are North Carolina, Georgetown, and Marquette (I could be missing some - but not any other major schools I'm pretty sure).

Now, the styling of the jersey itself could be much improved - but I'm sure that costs a pretty penny, or requires more apparel sales than Montana generates.

Cal has Jumpman without very exiting jerseys:

I might be the only one, but I have never understood why the home team in basketball wears white/light, while in football, home wears dark. I always thought that it would be good if the home team could wear their actual team colors in basketball as well as football.

Aagreed. It is one of the burning questions of our time. It is confusing to make the transition from FB to BB.

North Carolina has been the top-selling collegiate uniform for nearly two decades according to goheels.com. They have been Nike for a LONG TIME and for the last 8 years, they have been Jump Man, which I'm sure most of you know is the Jordan brand and they don't seem to have a problem with it...

I don't mind that they are wearing jumpman, I just wish they had uniforms that were a little more exciting. UNC's uni looks awesome whereas our uni looks very plain and boring. I still actually own a nike "replica" jersey (which looks nothing like the jersey, and is technically their away colours).

ya know, im not sure if hoops is the same as football....but it seemed like the football team used their unis for 3 seasons then had upgrades/changes. So i guess it makes sense the basketball team would be along that same sort of timeline, but im not for sure that is just an educated guess. I guess i am in the minorty in this thread but i like our unis. Simple and tough looking. I dig the MONTANA in big block letters across the chest. I guess it jsut seems like there is only so much you can do with a home basketball uniform. It was also mentioned about the home unis being white and the football wearing dark for home. I am not sure but i dont think that is manditory......Last year i watched a game on ESPN and i coudlnt remember who it was but they were wearing dark blue and were the home team...not so sure about college football but i know in the NFL there are a hand full of teams that wear white at home. The home whites might be kind of an unwritten rule, but that again is speculation. As long as the griz coem out and win in what ever unis they wear im happy haha and i think its 18 conf wins in a row and counting! GO GRIZZZZZZZZZZ

Bitching about uniforms is a good sign. It means Wayne has the program to the point where we cannot bitch about the team or its play any longer. I am a basketball junkie and could care less about uniforms. Ditto that for football. I will admit, I love seeing teams come out in new looks now and then, but it is the furthest thing on my mind during an athletic event.

 I think anything that says MONTANA on the chest and is maroon and silver(white) is badass. I dont knwo what it is abotu football but seems there is so much more they can do with football unis to make em flashy, but when it comes down to it what matters is who is in the unis...

  :thumb:

We'd better start up the collection NOW to get Wayne to stay after this year, folks. :( :(

bro if the griz had any style they would be rockin some shiny silver jerseys with maroon writing at home cuz it would look tight and would still not violate the light colors at home rule.

and fuck nike. they need to get a big ass FUBU logo on those motherfuckers

You know the saying, in my case "You can take the man out of Montana, but can't take Montana out of the man." Citay, I am about simple as simple get regarding fashion. Beyond a shirt, casual shoes, is dressing up to me, and I hate it. Current fashion is not something I pay to keep up on. Rather throw my money, or lack thereof elsewhere.

They look pretty sweet. And they even have the Nike logo on the uniform.

Not every school is about unis citay. Tell me that North Carolina, Duke, Stanford, UCLA, Michigan State, UConn, Syracuse, and many others have trouble "selling on TV"
