UNI beating ISU; not a big deal

Before everyone gets all hyped up on UNI's win over FBS Iowa St, here's a couple points that shows that this game was a recipe for disaster for ISU and that next week is still a winnable game for us.

Knocks on ISU.
•Picked 9th out of 10 Big 12 schools at the conference media days.
•New coach with a run first, second, and third mentality.
•Only one returning O lineman plus one of the incumbent starters out serving a one game suspension.
•Nine penalties for 89 yards.
•1-4 in turnovers with three of the four turnovers coming in the final five minutes trying to preserve a 20-19 lead.
•In the final 7:02, Iowa State only managed to run six offensive plays because of two interceptions and a fumble by the RB.
•interesting quote by the ISU coach-
“How are you going to win a game when it’s 4-1? It’s just not going to happen. We’re not good enough nor is really anybody to overcome a situation like that. That’s disappointing."
•Defense returns 8 starters from a team that ranked 107th nationally last year.

Strong points for UNI.
•4 star recruit and Big 10 drop down returns at QB as a 2 year starting Sr.
•1st Team MVC RB also returns as a 2 year starting Sr.
•6 of the top 7 WR's return in an offense where every one of them averaged over 10 yards a catch last year.
•4 of last years starting 5 on the O line return including 2 3 year starters.
•A very expierienced front 7 on D return albeit one LB and the two DE's weren't starters but still played a lot.

The one knock on UNI-
•a VERY inexperienced secondary with no starts among the 4 even though 3 of them are Sr's.

So your point is? If the Griz win there should be no dancing in the streets?
There damn well better be dancing in the streets. It will be a huge win and more proof that we are getting back to our dominant ways. My point is that I see a lot of people are already giving this game to UNI due to their win over a cup cake FBS school. I'm just saying it's still definitely a winnable game for us, along with impressive.

Ok. Just checking. You seemed kinda down on NIUs win....

Northern Illinois?

Those "strong" points are enough to say that team is a 2 touchdown favorite at home (at least). Win there for Griz will be very impressive

Thanks coach! I didn't know you thought so highly of the Griz :thumb:

An FCS team beating an FBS team is ALWAYS a big deal (note the use of big letters). The Griz would not have beaten too many (if any) FBS teams the way they played against SFU. This is not to say that they can't beat UNI but they have to play about 100% better from the opening kickoff.
