Undersized defensive line

The D-line has fairly good size, except for Simms at d-tackle (265). Simms is very strong, though. The 2 transfers were terrific additions. The D-line may be the best in FCS, and there is very nice depth. I view the D-line as the strength of the defense this year, or so far this year. The backers would certainly say that the D-line makes their jobs easier. And Kidder is a beast. Every QB we play will have no. 37 in the back of their minds, after watching tape. It jump can't feel good when he clobbers the qb's. However, I've been impressed with how several opposing qb's have taken huge hits, yet been able to get up and keep playing. They must be pretty tough.
I wouldn't put us above NDSU as far as DL goes, close....but not superior.

Maybe you wouldn't, but I would.
Fair enough. I'm just basing this off of what I saw them do against Iowa.

I've heard this said about UM's D-line this year.

With the addition to B Davidson 6'3'' 294 and the rest of DTs around 270ish and Kidder in and out of the DT rotation in situations. The Griz D-line are not playing small. Compared to what you see with other teams, these guys are long, athletic, and strong. No bowling balls or beer bellies.

Would like to get opinions on DL.

Also, have young guys like Longoria that will be in the mix in the future.

How is this group compared to the competition?

The only other element we've seen on several teams this season is the 330 lb bridge abutment. While having one might make for tougher sledding straight ahead, the extra beef Stitt recruited is pretty athletic. A defense like this is predicated on putting pressure on the opposing offense and rallying to the ball. 330 lb linemen will give it a try, but youd need more than one to play the spot so you can get them a break. I'll take the athletic guys with stamina over the boys as wide as they are tall any day.

I don't know either. I'm just basing this off what Semore said, ie. probably best d-line in fcs.

Ah gotcha. I'm just hoping they have huge days against NAU & EWU. We'll need them then BIG TIME.

Nascar D-line, opposed to slow oversized masses in the middle. The D-line is solid against the run and fast enough to rush the QB when passing. The base is versatile, allowing Semore to put players in best position for success. Depth of DTs isn't great, but thankfully these guys are staying healthy. Seems to be a pretty good core of DEs that help the overall rotation. When offense gets a lead, this style of defensive line can devastate opposing QBs. Future depth is coming, should be even better overall unit even after Kidder graduates. Kidder has the build and versatility to have a solid NFL career, he is a every down type not just a specialist. Nice to see Sims transition well to this level of play, he was a man amongst boys in HS. Look forward to his progression. Sims is similar to Kidder both guys are beasts.

Respectfully disagree. Nate Bradley is the only guy missing now and Osibodu & Davis are more than holding their own. While Nate would have been a plus, nobody is running between the tackles against the Griz so far. When he can sub on passing downs, Semore is dropping D-ends and linebackers on the field to ratchet up the pressure.

Sims is on the field because he's exceptional, just like kidder was @ this stage.

I agree with you. Nice talent and depth. Sims, plus 91, 92, 93. Good size among the latter 3, and good strength with under-sized Sims.
