UM 4th Down Conversion Rate

As I mentioned previously, the UM 4th down conversion rate was terrible. 3d down conversion was 4th in conference.

4TH-DOWN CONVERSIONS G Conv. Att. Pct.
1. North Dakota 11 11 15 73.3
2. Weber State 12 15 21 71.4
3. Southern Utah 11 12 17 70.6
4. Cal Poly 12 20 31 64.5
5. Northern Colorado 11 10 17 58.8
Sacramento State 11 10 17 58.8
7. Montana State 11 11 19 57.9
8. Idaho State 11 18 32 56.2
9. Eastern Washington 11 10 19 52.6
10. UC Davis 11 8 16 50.0
Portland State 11 9 18 50.0
12. Montana 11 11 24 45.8
13. NAU 11 14 31 45.2

Interesting that the # of times most teams were successful was between 8-11 times. No matter how many times they went for it.

When you lose 4 of 5, you tend to go for 4th down in a lot of scenarios late in games where you wouldn't normally.

That, and our ridiculously stupid 4th & goal plays that never work.

Basically this. But we did definitely struggle on 4th down

Brady made some really weird decisions on late downs all seasons I noticed. Hopefully the next guy can get that figured out.

It's interesting that a lot of quick strike offenses landed at the bottom of the list. It makes sense to me that three yards and a cloud of dust would be more successful in 4 downs.

I have no problem "going for it" on 4th down, on occasion. I just don't think it should be something a team should PLAN on having to do frequently.

Interesting point considering that going for it on 4th down was a big part of the Stitt mystique....

Remember the first few games last year? I mumbled WTF more times than I care to think about the first 3 or 4 games with his 4th down philosophy...at least he learned from some of those decisions.
