1. "Kolter Stevenson of Manhattan, Montana, earned arguably the world’s top academic honor this year, the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. On the list of the country’s 32 Rhodes winners this year, only four students hailed from public institutions, with the University of Montana being one."

2. "Not only are we welcoming larger entering classes to our beautiful campus (UM saw its largest year-over-year growth in 14 years this fall), but also helping students succeed at much higher rates. .... That’s why we were thrilled this fall to report the highest first-year retention rate ever recorded at UM. Our retention rate is now 8 percentage points higher than it was in 2017."

3. "This past fall, Montana’s pride and passion for Grizzly Athletics was visibly felt and seen across the state and the entire country. Our women’s soccer team not only won the Big Sky Conference championship, but went undefeated in league play, recorded its most wins since 2000 and set game attendance records. Our women’s volleyball team also set an attendance record during its 3-0 sweep over Montana State, and our men’s and women’s cross-country teams showcased Missoula’s beauty while hosting the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships. Of course, football also gave us an unforgettable season, dominating the Brawl of the Wild to claim the Great Divide Trophy and win its first Big Sky Conference championship since 2009. Importantly, we also won the annual Can the Cats food drive and the blood drive. Student attendance was at its highest level since 2010. The Griz then put Montana under a national spotlight by advancing to the FCS National Championship game, where the game was broadcast nationally. Our UM Alumni Association hosted a celebratory week in Frisco, Texas, that welcomed more than 6,000 Griz fans and showcased the best of the Grizzly spirit on a national level."

4. "Perhaps the most visible evidence of UM’s renewal is a boost to our physical campus infrastructure. Since we launched this effort back in 2019, we’ve completed major campus projects valued at over $35 million, and there are more than $100 million worth of projects either completed or currently underway."

5. "UM is in its second year as an “R1” institution. Achieving R1 was the culmination of a decades-long goal for UM. During the past decade, expenditures from research grants have more than doubled at the University. This past fall reported research expenditures were a record $126 million, up $4 million from the year before. Celebrated in UM’s Vision magazine, UM experienced a 129% increase from $55 million reported in 2014."

Wow, this is all AMAZING and great news! While all are impressive, I like the #1 spot of the kid Kolter Stevenson. That is just remarkable

Montana, State, and Davis are the only R1 schools in the Big Sky. UI, ISU, NAU, and PSU (didn’t see that one coming…) are R2. I somehow expected to see Poly as at least a R2.

Why is it institutins of higher learning can't seem to count? The Big Ten confernce has 16-18 members. The PAC 12 has 2 memebrs the Big 12 has 16+ members. Our list of Top 10 Highlights has 5 events. Is this New Math. I think I was #1 in my graduating class give or take a few hundred. ;)

I see you didn't open the link to see the 10. I culled out 5 that I thought would be the most interesting to egriz. Assume you went to Frisco.

UM is clearly on the rise. Keep up the good work.

My favorite UM t-shirt (which got old and dirty and hit the bin years ago) listed the number of Rhodes scholars, Fulbrights, and a couple other cool stats. And at the bottm read, “And we play a little football.”
I would love an update to that shirt! I would buy several now!

But more importantly, Kylla Benes, UM's director of external scholarships and fellowships, needs to be supported. That role seems critical to getting UM students awarded a Rhodes. I dunno if she also helped the Griz defensive back who was a finalist a few years ago, but that seems like a really critical position to help students and win the same award that Bodnar and his wife have. I would love to see more.

Go Griz!
