It’s also UC Davis, not Cal-Davis. Pretty big difference between the UC and CSU systems.
First rights to "an invitation to apply for membership", but the conference is not obligated to accept their membership.
Meh. GRIZ will have first option on which DIII conference we join

Cal-Davis does not imply Cal State. Neither does Cal-Berkley
Well, not really accurate. It’s UC Berkeley and UC Davis. UC Berkeley is known as California (colloquially “Cal”) because it’s the flagship university of the UC system. Case in point: Nobody would say Cal-LA on a trivia question asking where Bill Walton played CBB.

Come on man it's California at Davis hence Cal- Davis. I know at least two alum that refer to it as such.
So, they must also refer to Cal-LA, Cal-Irvine, Cal-San Diego, etc. as such? How’d they get into UC Davis? (joking).
Sorry, I just have to edit this to add I just asked Dr. CDA (a UC alumna) who just got back from her book club/wine drinking meeting if she would ever refer to a UC as “Cal [city]”. She laughed (very mockingly in my direction, I might add), shook her head, and went upstairs. Elitist chicks, man.
