UC-Davis to the MWC

That's bizarre. I feel like their Football program is in a good enough spot that they could do it now. Their stadium is nice, they're well funded, their enrollment is huge, and they're building a new facility. Looks to me like they have everything they need to do it now.

Only a matter of time. If the Mountain West loses a couple more teams in the future as Kent Haslam thinks will happen, Davis will be on their list if the Mountain West is already adding them for everything else.

I think the only other potential MWC team to be poached would be UNLV due to the Vegas market. Granted that's going to depend on the outcome of the MWC vs PAC lawsuit, I think that will be addressed in March.

That or the Mountain West decides to expand further and add more teams than it has right now, which is the likely case.

Assuming UNLV leaves for the PAC (I personally think it still happens) hopefully us along with the Kittens would be invited along with the Dakota States as Football only options (lots of smoke about that, especially with NDSU). Would be an awesome Conference IMO:

SJSU...............Wyoming
UC-Davis.........Air Force
Nevada............Montana
Hawaii.............MSU
UNM................*NDSU
UTEP................*SDSU
**GCU

* = Football Only
** = No Football

Gives you 11 full time and 12 Football playing schools in a pretty regional Conference (by Western standards).

Kinda makes one wonder what the future holds for us? Both UofM and MSU are anomalies. Strong fan support, excellent facilities but not attractive from market strength. Unfortunately TV viewership more than anything dictates our future. I can see both SacSt and Davis moving football to FBS within the next couple of years.
EWU has not only funding issues but facilities too. NCU should either get a massive infusion of dollars which doesn’t appear to be in the cards. They might be wise to drop down a division.
Weber St has the potential because they sit in a fairly populated area along the Interstate I-15 corridor but they have to compete with BYU, UTAH and USU.
Idaho St. lacks facilities and $$$ so their future doesn’t look so bright.
In my opinion, and it’s just that, ranking the strength of the remaining schools I’d go with this;
1. MSU
2/3 UM, IDAHO
4/5 UNA, WEBER St.
But I think between now and next fall there will still be many changes to the landscape of FCS.
Haslam is playing his cards close to the vest which is probably wise at this point.

NDSU should be at the top. They have the most championships, Fargo is a relatively large market compared to the Montana and other Dakota schools and they have strong support in the Twin Cities market 3 hours away. UM should be second Missoula is larger and the Griz have had more consistent success than SDSU, MSU and USD which I would put as third, fourth and fifth best remaining options for the Mountain West in that order.

Looks like it's NIU

NDSU isn’t even in the discussion. Only referencing BS schools. But now that you brought it up. Draw a circle 200 miles out from SDSU and USD and then count your chickens.
