Tyler Faerber 6'5" WR ... an update

Tyler Faerber, a 6'4'', 200-pound receiver from Shawnee Mission, Kansas had previously given a verbal to Illinois but has completely fallen off the radar since National Signing Day.

He never faxed in his signed letter of intent to the Illinois coaching staff, and while head coach Tim Beckman reportedly has had contact with him, the media have heard nothing from the talented receiver even after persistently trying to reach him.

What continues to contribute to the oddness of his situation is that he committed to Illini last March and has not wavered at all in the commitment since.

One rumor said that he recently had contact with the University of Montana Grizzlies, but that has not been confirmed or denied by any other media outlets.

Although many recruiting databases have Faerber ranked as a 2- to 3-star prospect, his game tape shows that he could be a dynamic playmaker for the Illini.

Is it Tyler or Elliot? The Bleacher Report link takes you to Elliot.

This is odd. Maybe its the same dude. Somebody mucked up the name? Both are from Shawnee Mission, Kansas if it isn't one fella.

Elliot committed to Illinois and has since had a change of heart. Not sure if Tyler is Elliot or not.

Actually Illinois changed his offer to a grey shirt, so he decided to look elsewhere. Fritz said in his blog that he had talked with his father, and that he probably wont make a decision until later.

Faerber’s dad told me it could be a while before his son signs anywhere; he was headed to Illinois but then was told he’d be a grey shirt.

Griz plan to sign 22 recruits

By FRITZ NEIGHBOR of the Missoulian missoulian.com | Posted: Wednesday, February 1, 2012 5:00 am | s

Montana head coach Robin Pflugrad will announce his third recruiting class on Wednesday.

By Wednesday afternoon the Montana Grizzlies plan to have 22 players in their 2012 recruiting class, coordinator Scott Gragg said.

The updated, and tentative, list includes a kicker from Oregon, a defensive end from Vancouver, Wash., a running back from Arizona and a quarterback from California.

Malik Watson out of Pittsburgh, Calif., has committed to the Griz, according to the Rivals.com website. He's 6-foot-2 and weighs 220 pounds and would give UM two high school quarterbacks in this signing class. The other is 6-7 Brady Gustafson out of Billings West.

Joey Counts, 5-9 and 200 out of Mesa, Ariz., is also joining the Griz; his coach confirmed it to the Phoenix Gazette. Counts ran for a state-record 411 yards in a game last fall for Desert Ridge High School.

The website WashingtonPreps.com has defensive end Ryan Johnson, 6-3 and 250, joining the Grizzlies.

Rivals.com also had Harrison Greenberg, a place-kicker out of Lake Oswego, Ore., coming to the Griz.

As in any recruiting class, there could be some last-minute changes. Watson, for example, had aimed for the Pac-12 conference. The Grizzlies also saw receiver Marquis Bundy out of Anthem, Ariz., de-commit and choose New Mexico of the Mountain West Conference last month.

A receiver who had originally committed to Illinois, Eliot Faerber, made contact with the Grizzlies last weekend as well.

Montana went into the recruiting period with 19.44 scholarships; that number could change should players leave the program. The signing period begins Wednesday and runs for two months, until April 1.

Two members of the recruiting class have already enrolled at UM: Linebacker Nick Holt and receiver/defensive back Ellis Henderson, who are Bowl Subdivision transfers from Washington and Hawaii, respectively.
