Two Zags Arrested on Drug Charges

So if they got caught with child pornography instead, would that be ok? They're not hurting anyone, just looking at pictures. My point being that the "no harm, no foul" arguement that a lot of you are trying to make is not a valid one.

That assertion makes no sense whatsoever. Obviously, the production of child pornography has a victim ... as evidenced by the resulting video footage ... which is the entire point of producing the stuff.

So I thoroughly reject your attempt at using that as an analogy for victim-free drug or prostitution transactions. They are completely apples and oranges.

Thoroughly reject whatever you want, I'm just trying to point out that drug use/sale/trafficking is not a victimless crime.

You were trying to equate child porn and smoking pot ... which is absurd.

But as to your point that drug use/sale/traifficking is not a victimless crime, would you make the same argument in favor of alcholol prohibition? If not, why?

If pot and/or shrooms were legal, they would be much less of a detriment to society than they now are being illegal.

The prohibition of the drugs is causing more problems than it solves ... just like it did for alcohol.

My last post on the subject since this subject has been beat to
death-the foolowing reference from Journal of the American Medical
Assn Jan 22 2003-the Title reads" Escalation of drug use in early
onset cannabis users vs co-twin controls. No question MJ use in
some people leads to hard drug use. Please don;t question a well
studied subject-Now back to Hoops-losing josh will hurt the Zags.
P.S. Whats with the kid fron Kalispell committing to Zags-Where
were the Griz? :grenade:

What is the correlation of alcohol use preceding hard drug usage? 99.9999%? Is alcohol, then, the real "gateway" drug?

Are you arguing in favor of making alcohol illegal?

The Griz don't get every person they recruit. The Zags are a pretty high profile program in case you had not noticed. You post implies the Griz missed the boat, hardly. The kid wanted to commit to Gonzaga. It is only a verbal, so he still could change his mind. A lot can happen in the next two years. If he goes to Gonzaga good luck to him.

Regardless of your stance on whether MJ should be legal or not, I think it's pretty safe to say that these 2 made a very bad decision that hurt them, their teammates, and their school in a big way. Anyone disagree?

I agree with that statement.

I just find it a shame that something like this is something that will hurt them, their teammates, and their school. It is a completely artificial issue that exists due only to the fact that these substances are illegal, and not because they guys are did any "real" harm to anyone.

Gonzaga Center Heytvelt Faces Drug Trial

By JOHN K. WILEY
Associated Press Writer

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Suspended Gonzaga center Josh Heytvelt is being charged with felony possession of a controlled substance following his Feb. 9 arrest, when police said they found hallucinogenic mushrooms in his car.

According to court documents released Tuesday, police found 33.2 grams - just over an ounce - of mushrooms inside a plastic ziplock bag in the back of the Chevrolet Blazer that Heytvelt was driving. Possession of any amount of illegal mushrooms is a Class C felony.

Heytvelt, 20, and teammate Theo Davis, 21, were arrested in Cheney on Feb. 9 and booked into Spokane County Jail. They were released the next day on their own recognizance.

Davis, a redshirt freshman who has not played because of injuries, will be referred to Cheney municipal court on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. Police allege they found a partial marijuana cigarette in Davis's pocket.

If convicted, Heytvelt faces a maximum prison sentence of five years and a $10,000 fine. But Assistant Spokane County Prosecutor John Grasso said a typical sentence for a first-time drug offender is six months or fewer, and the sophomore could be given a lesser sentence if he agrees to a structured diversion program.

Heytvelt and his attorney will be arraigned sometime in the next two weeks, Grasso said.

Heytvelt, a 6-foot-11 sophomore center-forward, was the team's second leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points. He was the leading rebounder, with 7.7 per game.

After their arrests, coach Mark Few placed the players on indefinite suspension for breaking team rules. Heytvelt has not played in the four games since his arrest.

Gonzaga University's position has not changed now that formal charges have brought against the two students, spokesman Dale Goodwin said Tuesday.

Final disciplinary action by the university would wait until the legal process has run its course, Goodwin said.

Dennis Thompson, a Spokane lawyer who represents the pair, was not in his office Tuesday morning and was unavailable for comment, a secretary said.

c'mon guys....can we please stop talking about the ZAGS on the GRIZ basketball board? Wow.

Funny how you disappeared after the Zig Zags started losing, and losing, and losing. I imagine you wish you had never started shoving all that Zig Zag stuff in our faces.

Yeah, you're right. GU has lost a lot of games this year. By "a lot" I mean more than we're used to. I guess for some teams 10 losses isn't so uncommon; but for GU it's definitely out of the ordinary.
My posting about GU on this board will go down as one of my biggest regrets. I really don't know what I was thinking. Had I not started all those ZAG-related threads, my life would be so much better right now. I would have had more time to come up with a way to re-introduce alchemy as a reputable practice in North America or something. I'd probably be living in some mansion with 18 Italian sports cars and a butler. I guess I'll never know because I was too busy discussing a college basketball team on the internet. Darn me.

An obvious tongue in cheek response to a similar post. I do hope you realize that you shoul dhave expected some of the responses you received. I can't imagine a Griz posting on The Zig Zag board rubbing it in their faces would be well received either. :twocents:

Outside of the violence that results from the CRIMINALIZATION AND BLACK MARKET of the drug trade, who gets hurt from a guy smoking pot or eating a shroom?

The answer: nobody.

BAC,

Do you really believe that nobody has ever been injured by smoking pot or eating a shroom????

There have been reports of accidents involving individuals that are positive for THC. It is also known that people who use light illicit drugs are more prone to go to heavier drugs. So the argument could be made that someone smoking weed has a higher risk of going to heavier drugs...

Correct on both. However, I think you may have me confused with other posters. I don't remember rubbing anything in the faces of posters here. I may have sung the ZAGS praises, but seeing as how college BB isn't necessarily a zero-sum game, that does not translate into taking anything away from the GRIZ.

Note: retaliation is a different animal altogether.
