Turnovers Were the Difference in '12

Talk what you want about quarterbacks being unable to throw 20+ yard passes, the secondary's complete inability to cover any type of route, or the special team's failure to do anything special, the biggest difference this year was turnovers.

In the 6 losses, the Griz were -10 in the turnover difference margin. In only one of the losses did we win the turnover battle, North Dakota, and in that game we gave up 600+ passing yards, yet still were in it til the end. See that? Even though we could have been playing without safeties, which we essentially were, against UND we came out +1 on turnovers and were in the game.

The Griz were notorious in the Hauck era for creating turnovers and being smart on offense. We need to get back to being discipline and build from there.

Ball security was a religion under Hauck the Griz always won the turnover battle and that translates into winning the game 90% of the time.

THere were only two teams with worse red zone offensive production than the Griz:

Idaho State
Northern Colorado

That tells me all I need to know.

Yet, UNC finished higher in the standings. OW

This.

And people want to spout off about how we had one of the best offenses in the country.

Great at getting yards, but horrible at actually scoring. Especially when we had the best chances.

How many RZ fumbles did we give away last year? Must have been close to more than the previous four years combined...

Exact same thing with the 2010 vs 2011 seasons. In 2010 we were terrible with turnover magin and go 6 and 5. In 2011 Robin must of figured it out because we were much better and mad the semi's.

I still can't figure out why we would get inside the 20 and never see Counts or Kirshner. Peter was better if we wanted a break away, inside the 20 you need a banger and they always took them out.

Well, the stats I pulled from the BSC website said we officially lost TWO fumbles in the RZ, and had one INT. Plus missed 5 FG's.
