Wilson has an offer from Northern Arizona
Arizona's 2006 class of top performers has become a solid looking class of student-athletes, filled with numerous division-I prospects taking center stage on the AAU circuit this summer. One of the top overall prospects in the class is Apollo High School's 6-4 senior Tristan Wilson. I spoke with Apollo HS Head Coach Mark Nold and Wilson this weekend about his recruitment and it looks like there is a leader.
Mark Nold advised me that Wilson is being recruited by a small list of schools now, but that he is sure that Wilson's recruitment will begin to pick up after college coaches see him in July.
Nold stated that Wilson is currently hearing from Northern Arizona, Montana, Purdue, New Mexico, Arizona State, and Pepperdine. Nold told me that Northern Arizona has already offered Wilson a scholarship and that the Lumberjacks are recruiting Wilson the hardest.
"I would say they (NAU) are recruiting him the hardest now, but it is still too early," said Nold.
Nold also told me that Arizona State has began to become interested in Wilson.
"They spoke to me recently about Tristan," said Nold. "I don't know how interested they are yet, but there is some interest there."
Wilson advised me that he is no hurry to rush to decision either.
"I don't know where I want to go right now," said Wilson. "I will sit down with my coach and my mother after July and see what is out there."
Wilson led his Apollo high school team to the 4A State Championship last season, and just missed leading the Hawks to this year's championship at the ASU Team Camp, after losing in the title game to South Mountain HS, 65-56. In route to the championship game of the camp, Wilson dribbled the length of the floor with :08 seconds remainning on the clock, and scored a game winning basket over the outstretched hands of a seven-foot player from the opposing team.
"Tristan is as competitive as they get," replied Nold. "We lost a game recently and he called me late that night and apologized for the loss. He hates to lose."
Wilson will attend UCLA's Elite Camp this weekend on the campus of UCLA, and then will travel to the Double Pump All-West Camp (July 10-13) held in Los Angeles, California. Wilson will then travel with the Arizona Rage traveling team this July to the Fullcourt Press Cream of the Crop Challenge (July 14-15), the Vision Sports Main Event (July 22-26), and the Double Pump Best of Summer (July 27-31).
Nold advised me that Wilson carries a 2.8 GPA and has yet to take the ACT/SAT.
