Tres Tinkle First Team All-Pac 12 Again

"For the second time in his career, Oregon State junior Tres Tinkle was named first-team All-Pac-12 on Monday when the conference announced its end-of-the-year awards.

Tinkle, a Missoula Hellgate grad, is the only player on this year's team to repeat as an honoree from last year. Tinkle helped Oregon State to its first winning conference season in 29 years and averaged 20.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals. Tinkle is the only player in the Pac-12 to rank in the top 10 in all of those categories. Tinkle is second in the conference in scoring, fourth in steals, fifth in rebounding and ninth in assists."

Missoulian.

Assume an 18-12 Oregon St. team isn't likely to get to the ncaa tourney, but is that right?
I figured that was the case until I saw the seedings. Somehow, the tie-breakers broke their way and they ended up as the 4-seed from among a block of 10-8 teams. That give them a bye, after which they play the winner of the Colorado vs Cal game. The Beavs beat both of those teams during the regular season, so they'd have the edge there. (Because of the divisional structure in the Pac-12, they only played one game with those teams.) I can see them being in the conversation if they win that and play Washington (the 1-seed) tough. If they were to upset Washington and play in the conference championship, then I'd say -- win or lose -- they'd get a bid. (All of that is a big IF, of course.)

I'd think they have to at least get to the conference championship game. The Pac 12 has been a damn mess this year. The only teams that should get in from the Pac 12 are Washington, Arizona State, Oregon State. Most likely, only two will get in - at least that is my guess.

Good for Tres. I watched OSU on TV a number of times, and was always impressed with his play. The commentators usually were too.

My view also, although a close loss against Washington in a second game might get them in the conversation. (See my previous post.)

Also agree about Washington, ASU and OSU as the better candidates for a bid. Utah got the 3-seed on their conference record, but their rankings are terrible (over 100 on both their NET and RPI). Whatever ... I think the Pac-12 gets only two bids this year.

And, depending upon how the conference tournament goes, things could get really, really ugly for the Pac-12. Just a couple key upsets and I could, honestly, see the Pac-12 getting just the one bid. Washington will be in, I'm fairly sure. But suppose the other top seeds go one-and-done? Except for Washington, NET rankings for the Pac-12 teams are pretty sad.

I think they are in only if they win the tourney. No love for the Pac 12 this year and I bet they only get 2 in, and that's only if a couple teams don't lose early in the tourney.

My thought also. And the way things have gone this year in the Pac-12, I can easily see upsets all over the place.

Don't forget the Oregon Ducks, (to win tourney not an at large bid) they have won 4 in a row and gave UW it's only loss at home, last game of the year. Playing their best basketball late in season after numerous injuries...
