Tres Tinkle commits to Oregon State

Wayne actually gets 3 blue chip prospects today.....the Beavers are going to be awesome in 2-3 years!

It's common for a coach's son to go and play for his dad. What's uncommon is when two rising senior prospects in the ESPN100 commit to their fathers at the same school.
That's exactly what happened Tuesday as 6-foot-7 small forward Tres Tinkle (ESPN No. 45) and 6-foot-4 guard Stephen Thompson Jr. (ESPN No. 55) committed to their fathers -- head coach Wayne Tinkle and assistant coach Stephen Thompson -- at Oregon State. Point guard Derrick Bruce (grades at 77), who reclassified to the 2015 class, also committed today, and the timing couldn't have been better for the Beavers program.
The recruiting pitch was simple: If you come to Oregon State you can play for you dads, contribute immediately and help turn around a Pac-12 program.
"As the head coach's son, I know my dad will probably be the hardest on me but that's OK" Tres Tinkle said.
This gives the Beavers three players who will help immediately next season and more importantly help make this program competitive again and build it back into a winner among the Pac-12. The trio joins center Drew Eubanks, the top-ranked 2015 player in Oregon, who committed late last month, giving this group four positions with promising talent.
"I went on my visit this past weekend and loved the school, and love the fact that we can go in and be underdogs," Bruce said. "I like to prove people wrong."
Thompson Jr. has no concerns about playing for his dad, a former Syracuse great.
"He has worked with me on my game his whole life and has made me into the player that I am today," Thompson Jr. said. "Also, coach Tinkle is a great person and coach and I believe he will get the most out of my abilities."
Asked if there was any promises between father and son, the younger Tinkle responded jokingly, "My dad said If you and Stevie come to OSU you both would have the green light."

Awesome for Tres, Wayne, the family, and OSU basketball. What a great 1st recruiting class for Wayne. Talk about right timing, and the right hire as an assistant to build the program's foundation for years to come.

Man, life just got a whole lot easier for Tinkle now that he doesn't have to recruit as the head coach of a Big Sky program. Here's hoping Wayne is successful in Corvallis, especially when playing the Utes (sorry Krisko fans). Always thought he was a good dude.

That did not really surprise me. The decision to stay at Hellgate surprised me.
