TOUGH 2026

It's going to be brutal... Southern Utah, Drake and Utah Tech... That will get the players some experience.

I guess the University of Phoenix and Southern New Hampshire University were busy.

The pivotal stretch is that two game road trip against Oregon State and Davis. I have no idea how good OSU will be next year, but if they’re as bad as they were this year, then I think we could beat them. Davis will be tough as well but if you’re gonna compete for a natty, then you should be able to beat them on the road.

I’m not afraid of NAU. I think they’ll take a step back with Pennington now gone. We get Idaho at home and they have all kinds of new coaches and will look drastically different.

And then of course the cats in Bozeman, which as we’ve learned has become nearly impossible for us to win there. What do we do about that? I’m not sure exactly.

The one thing we do have with this schedule is a normal bye week which I do think played a part in our season falling apart. We got a long offseason ahead of us though. Gotta see how things go first.

It all starts in the weight room with lifting and conditioning and the strength and conditioning coach.

Players have to take the reins and do more than what the coaches and strength and conditioning coach wants them to do.

Then add in a sports performance coordinator for mental toughness and preparation.

Add in a nutrition program/buffet that players can go to at any time of the day or night to get a meal/snack.

We will also have a different team. Why so sure we can beat OSU?

We are losing to the cats because we aren’t identifying and developing and recruiting the best kids in Montana. Cats have been cleaning our clocks for a while. Which to those players the cat/Griz game means more. We used to be able to get any kid from Montana because we were MONTANA. Kids in this state do not identify with the university of Montana the we once did in the 90’s and early 2000’s. We won 2 national titles in 6 years. Haven’t won since. The bobcats used the formula we once emulated with Choate and now Vigen has continued.

I’m not so sure we can beat OSU. Just pointing out that if they are as bad as they were this year, then I like our chances. And yes I know all the reasons why the cat game has gone the way it has, but they need to figure out how to stem the tide and overcome all that in Bozo next year. What’s the answer? I really don’t know but they better come up with something.

I hope the people we are paying can figure that out. Seems like they haven’t been able to. To me it starts in the weight room in December. I don’t think our strength coach is up to the task when looking at how the cats perform in the 4th compared to us. Jeremy Pruitt is available!

I don’t think getting “the best kids in Montana” has much to do with either Griz or Cat success. Of course, I would love for UM to have the top 10 Montana kids every year. In today’s world that is not going to happen. The Griz need to get “the best kids for the Griz,” wherever they may come from … and then beat the shi! out of the Cats every year with those kids, be they from Montana or Hawaii or Vermont.

That’s kind of weird to say since we just got beat twice by a team that starts 8-10 kids from Montana and have lost to them 8 times in the last 10 years.

The Big Sky Offensive MVP, the first team all conference QB and the first team All-American WR are all from outside of Montana. I think the in-state recruiting is a bit overblown.
It’s not overblown. It’s a direct result of the health of a programs development. If we can’t win the recruiting battle in our own state, we aren’t winning the battles in other states. All great recruiters lock their state up. We used to and were winning the BSC and beating the cats regularly.

And the Big Sky DPOY is from Montana. I do not think its overblown one bit and why can't we have both instate and out of state after all We Are Montana. The instate recruiting is so much more than just football or athletics. Look at what all the great Montana teams were built on. Griz Football, MBB, Lady Griz... Montana players. When you get the best of the best from Montana like we used to, you get great players, your enrollment goes up because kids want to follow teammates and kids they played against and watch grow up, you gain lifelong fans that also want to watch and support kids they have seen grown up, and then you also gain life long passionate alumni that grew up in Montana, stay in Montana, and live and breath Montana Athletics.

Also, this was the same thinking at USC before Pete Carrol arrived. We can just get kids wherever we want because we are USC! Arrogance. Same thing applies to what you are saying.

I'm not afraid of this schedule at all. We had a cupcake schedule this year and look how that turned out. First 3 at home are all very winnable. @OSU i think we have a punchers chance to win. @UC Davis is going to be tough but there's rumors of Pinnick transferring already. NoCo is a W. @NAU always tough but they're going to regress. Idaho at home again we saw how that went last year. Then we get the bottom 3 teams in the conference before getting embarrassed in Bozeman. We're looking at 10-2 probably with a shot at a seed. If we get unlucky 9-3.

Let's say you're mostly right, maybe off by 1. Griz lose at Oregon state, at Davis, and drop one they shouldn't, say at nau or eastern, or home idaho state. 8-3 going into Bozeman and lose by 20+ again. Make the playoffs as a 12ish seed. I don't think that'll happen because I think you'll be better than those teams but since we're looking ahead hypothetically, what would happen around the program if that's how it went?

Griz could win every recruiting battle of MT kids, but if you don't develop them then it's a moot point. I think the scats do a phenomenal job developing MT kids knowing they're here and not jumping ship in the portal like out-of-state players are more likely to do. I would genuinely question whether the Griz could've developed Caden Dowler into a Big Sky Defensive POY

That's a fair point and I agree with it but we will never know if we never get them. We did pretty well when we were getting them but either way it's a BH issue. He cant get them so we will never know or he gets them and never develops them which we have seen but either way csu is going to be the National Champions which is the best team in our division with 8-10 Montana kids starting for them. That is something that cannot be just overlooked or swept under the rug as just an education major issue. Also, every year, cats are doubling their new fanbase compared to our new fans which brings them even more money to be athletically successful.
