top 5 in 1-AA scores?

Top 2 haven't started playing yet.

(6)Delaware beat (3)Massachussetts 51 to 45.

And (4)Wofford is beating (25)Furman with around 10 to 11 minutes left 7 - 3.

Delaware 51
Mass 45

It did, and I heard or read on the 1aa board that Umass missed the mandatory two pt in the third OT. I also read that Deleware only had ten players on the field and were blitzing when they stopped UMass on fourth down.

Teams not ranked above us but a surprise to me:

Maine beast Nova...oofffff!

and ISU beats CP-SLO - aughhhhhhhh!

I was hoping to se CPSLO make the playoff's... not sure why, just kind of an underdog to do it, and add clout to our win I guess....

and I HATE ISU :fist:

GO GRIZ - GREAT WIN BABY!

Bring on dem pussy cats!

I wouldn't worry about it. ISU lost to some of the teams we whacked, so it's just a "any given Saturday" scenario with our 2 losses.

I think the next poll will look like:

1. McNeese St.

2. Wofford

3. Delaware

4.Montana

Hate to be negative, but I think Deleware had a more impressive victory, and they have a better record than the Griz. Do we still need someone to lose in order to get a four seed?

No way we stay at No. 5. We will go at least to No. 3. I was surprised when Delaware dropped below us this week, but now that they have, I don't see them leap frogging over us, especially since we had such a dominating win. Wofford's very close 7-6 win over Furman could get us to No. 2, but I don't expect that.

Damn...I was hoping I could edit that quick enough before anyone pointed out my idiosy...Northern Iowa lost. I'm not too good at reading basketball scores early in the morning, I guess.

I'm with you GrizRick. I was a little surprised that we were ranked ahead of Delaware last week, but since we were, I don't think we surrend anything to them with our respective wins. Thus we move up to at least #3, and if anyone wants to take the time to make a detailed comparison between us and Wofford, we should be at #2. (But that probably won't happen--so I say we come out as #3.)

Then after we kick the Cats, and McTeam and Wofford lose next week--there we are--#1.

But really, that's not very critical-- the only day that I really want to be #1 is December 20th in Chattanooga. Before then, we just need to take care of business and forget the polls.

hell after Mcteams squeaker....again maybe we'll be #1....it's where we belong.

:drinking:

ahhhhhhhh

#3 is my prediction....possibly a #2.

every team around the country has to be saying to themselves.....wow them Griz are getting hot!

Look at our scores the last several weeks....and the D is as someone on here described.

Lights out baby!

Go Griz!

There's a real chance McNeese will lose next week. They have to play Nicholls State, who is tied with them for the conference lead and has been winning more decisively of late than has McNeese.

???? You did lose a couple didn't you????

Uhhhh, they lost last week guys.

Yep, about as much chance as the Griz losing to the Cats. By the way, just how likely is that???

That's what I thought.

Ahem, color me embarrassed McNeese75. I see now that Nicholls State did lose, to Stephen F. Austin. Their first lost in conference but 5th loss on the season, so it's not likely they'd beat McNeese. I do have to say though that McNeese this year reminds me of the Griz last year: ranked #1 late in the season, but struggling to get wins. I feel a whole lot better about the Griz this year, with the momentum they have.

I appreciate your enthuisiam (msp) Grizrick. There are a couple of big differences between this years Cowboys and last years Griz.

First of all, we do have a few nicks and bruises but none of our critical skill players are out for the season and we have good depth at pretty much all positions (our tradition of playing everyone possible during the season has turned our young players into hardened backups by now). Last year the Griz were missing some key players due to injury if I remember correctly.

Second, we should win this weekend and hold home field advantage until the finals or defeated. Now, anything goes in a conference game and Nicholls spoiled our home field plans in 1998 and we promptly lost to Maine in the first playoff game. Home field to us is as important as it is for you.

Third, this is a very experienced team. 20 seniors and 17 returning starters from 2002.

Sure we have had our share of close games this year. In fact, there are at least 5 of the teams we have played that are still doing the woulda, shoulda, coulda thing and trying to figure out how we beat them and are still moaning about how lucky we are. Well, call it luck, call it fate, call it the cardiac cowboys. We know how to win and that is what counts when the final buzzer sounds.

Ok, enough preaching, Good luck with the Cats this week (glad it will be you and not us in that freezer of a stadium. We will be playing on Bobby Boucher's home field where they filmed "The Waterboy")

I think that's pretty sound analysis, McN75 - the Griz did have the losses of key players that seemed to happen every game last year. The capstone was the loss of our best CB, Vernon Smith, in the game last year in Lake Charles... to that point, the Griz were winning pretty handily (score was like 24 - 7 I think). Smith got hurt and left, and BJ Sams went on a tear, catching bombs, wide open for short passes (I still don't know how that happened - IMO if you're playing a guy like Sams, you put someone on him even if he's on the damn bench; and the linbackers they moved over to try to cover were sadly overmatched), etc. That, of course, opened up the run game and Lawton ran it down the poor Griz 2nd string D-line's throat from then on.
I think the best analog between last year's Griz and this year's McTeam is the fact that the Pokes have like you said a bunch of playoff-experienced guys who know how to win, even when they may not be playing well. It's rarely pretty, it may cause the fans anxiety attacks, but they find a way to hold on and get the W.
Here's hoping we see each other again this year. And hey, I know the chances of it happening are remote, but wouldn't you guys like to come up and visit us and play in the 20 degree crisp mountain air? :D

I'm with you on that last point, WhereDo: would be great to have our friends from Lake Charles come visit us in Missoula. I really do like them (except for those damn Bobcat colors they wear), and think they have some of the classier fans we've run across in the playoffs. As for McNeese75's analysis, I can't find a thing to argue with other than this routine of winning ugly runs out eventually, no matter how experienced the players are. The way the Griz are gelling these last few games brings back fond memories of 1995 when they had a great offense but so-so defense during the regular season, and then as the playoffs started, the defense just got great. This year, it's our defense (with the possible exception of the secondary) that's been great, and now the offense is starting to really come on strong. I like momentum.

Believe me, We do not like the "winning ugly" route. Last year it took us to Nooga and then ran out in the Final. We are all still looking for the Pokes to begin playing their best football on both sides of the ball. If it happens, we are in there, if it doesn't, well we will all be chewing Tums and pulling our hair out (just like last year).

Luck to ya! and regarding the invitation to come up and visit you in the crisp 20 degree weather, ummmmm, I think I'll pass cause somebody is sandbagging as I have seen the weather predictions in Bozeman for this week and it aint 20 degrees. I am looking at a crisp 45 degrees in the morning with the temps back up in the 70's or 80's by gametime this weekend.
