Tonight's Seating

Anyone else think that if you paid for a golden griz ticket you should get your seat for tonight and the rest of the gym could be open seating? I think it's kind of shitty being wide open, but maybe that's just me.

I paid for Golden Grizzly seats, but not for this game because the seats are free. So, why should I be mad for not getting my seat when I didn't pay for a ticket for this game because all the seats are free. Being an exhibition game, the game doesn't count except to prepare the team for the games that really do count on the record and stats. I think all exhibition games should be free and no reserved seats, just general admission seating that is FREE. It is a great way to get people to come and introduce the team to potential new fans.

So, I just do not get the gripe about golden griz fans not getting their seat when they haven't even paid for the seat because it is FREE.

If you look at your season tickets you will see that your first ticket is marked as "Game 2". That is because when they sent out the invoices this game WAS included in your price. Later, the U decided it would be good to get more people to watch Griz bball and decided to use this game as a free pump primer. I totally agree that it is a good idea to try to get more people to the games and revive the program, however, you can't sell one product and then change your mind unilaterally and deliver one less game after you collect your fee. It's not a huge deal but it kind of smacks of the crap the U has pulled over the last decade that has resulted in tons of fans abandoning season tickets and has hurt the program. That is why the Golden Griz section is not sold out to this day. Lifelong fans that were promised certain seats for their support, were screwed and moved after the re-model. Most of them quit going altogether and we haven't got them all back yet. Just a little history if that helps.

I agree totally. I also don't like the 8-minute dash. You wanna sit in good seats, pay for 'em!

Show up at the damn games then!!!! As a coach, I want as many butts in the seats close to the court to help boost player morale, and get under the opponent's skin. If you don't show up, then what is wrong with anyone using that seat?

Plus, I do know a few people that later bought tickets, and/or became GSA members because of the 8 minute dash. They enjoyed the experience, and it earned the program some extra $$$$$.

Alright ..I was going to blow off the game tonight as I travel really early tomorrow but you have convinced me to go. I'll be right behind our bench :thumb:
GO GRIZ!!!!

BTW, the video feed is AWESOME for this game. http://www.gogriz.com/allaccess/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There were 500 people there. If you didn't sit within 30 feet of the court, you didn't want to, like the few Griz football players that camped out as far away from the court as possible (5 or 6 is all I saw). There were more volleyball players than football players at the game. I've said it many times, but it bares repeating:There will NEVER be an intimidating home-court advantage in Dahlberg again until the football players return to the games en masse and make some noise like they use to. If the football players lead the way, it would become cool and the in thing to do again and all the football player groupies and hangers-on will follow. I know I know, 3am raging parties after a football win are way more important than supporting your fellow student-athletes. Unless they are being recognized at halftime, the average Griz football player turnout is usually in the single-digits, which is pathetic. Maybe there are more, but it's hard to tell when they are silently hiding out in the upper tier. I would like to think Griz b-ball is exciting enough on it's own to draw a decent crowd, but as long as the footballers boycott games, 99% of the student body will continue to ignore Griz hoops. And as we have seen the past 10-15 years, without rowdy students (or Nate Schweber at least) you have a terrible atmosphere, with all the GSA donors hogging the prime seats and half staying at home (out of state).

Pretty spartan crowd for sure. The U has tried to get the apathetic students back but this generation is a bunch of followers. They lack any leadership and only flock like lemmings to events "everyone" already has deemed worthy. Good thing we have some golden griz people showing up or no one at all would be there.

The 8 minute dash gives students a chance to get decent seats. Maybe if they moved the student section back to the sideline Dahlberg would have a more competitive presence.

I think it would take more than moving the student section back to the sideline to get the excitement from them back up to the level we would all like to see it. It would probably help but it's not like the end of the court is that bad of a seat. It's close to the action and can be a good distraction for the opposing team in the second half. Not sure if Zirg is right about the football players, but I can see that being part of the issue.

He is right about the football team. I remember a few years ago, JD Quinn, would really get into the basketball games, and the students followed his queue. I also think, after the football season is over, football players attending will pick up. :thumb:

That is kind of a dickhead thing to say..........It appears that maroonandsilver is either fat (likes his space), or he thinks the older and wealthier people provide an adequate amount of intense atmosphere.

If I ever do the "8 min dash" again I hope I sit next to maroonandsilver just to eff with him.........What a jerk-off. He's one of the reasons why the atmosphere at griz bball games suck.

It would be nice to see more football players at the games. We've had some over the years that attended the games, but you are right..it's rarely been more than a few a game. JD Quinn, Jon Talmage, Dustin Dlouhy, Etu Molden, and a few others attended a lot of games from what I remember. As I posted in another thread JD Quinn really got in Dominguez's head (when PSU played here)...it was pretty damn funny. Dominguez had something like 6 points (well below his average), and the Griz won :)

It'd be nice to see a good number of FB players show up and try to make the student section rowdy again.
