Title IX lawyer: Utah collective's NIL truck deal 'huge' concern for university

"One of the most lucrative team deals in the 28-month-old NIL Era – in which a Utah-focused collective provided all 85 scholarship football players new Dodge trucks – has now captured the attention of the nation’s most prominent Title IX lawyer.

Bay Area-based Arthur Bryant of Bailey & Glasser, LLP, who has represented more women athletes in Title IX litigation against schools and universities than any lawyer nationwide, said he is “outraged” over what he calls a “blatant, in-your-face” case of “extraordinary sex discrimination.”

In its headline-grabbing truck unveiling last month, the Utah-focused collective, the Crimson Collective, announced it is leasing the football players – and no female athletes – 2024 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn trucks for free."

Furthermore, the collective is forcing non-scholarship football players to park their mom's Subaru in the soccer parking lot and walk to practice.

West Virginias AG is suing the ncaa on anti trust grounds. And his case actually seems legit. Now that these kids are making NIL money the ncaa stoping Battles final year can be argued that they are a monopoly stoping him from earning money.

My question is how long before we see a kid sue a coach claiming that by not playing him that the coach is taking away the players money earning potential.

I like that the 9 lawyer is awash with disgust at players driving a vehicle, but big players getting shit loads of money is not mentioned.

Hoops, this is the same attorney who made Dartmouth Athletics better and is helping to fix their problems (mainly poor leadership and oversight of athletic department in regard to gender equality and planning).

Just because the media doesn't report or mention other issues in the article doesn't mean the lawyer doesn't care about it. They clearly do. Their firm has done some incredible work in the College Athletic space in regard to Title IX and they are trying to make it better for all females across the country.

Every college that receives federal funding needs to follow Title IX, including the one's in Montana. Most colleges are lethargic to do anything until called out on it. The burden is usually on the female athletes (as they are most often the one's being discriminated against) to fight, most of them and their parents don't even know what Title IX is and how it applies to athletics. https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2014/1/27/title-ix-frequently-asked-questions.aspx

What college female goes to college thinking "Oh boy it's up to me to enforce what the school should already be following". Colleges have Title IX Coordinators, Athletic Directors and other staff who turn a blind eye knowing they only have to deal with it typically when called out.

NIL and Title IX have been on a collision course for quite some time, it is just finally playing out.

“To be clear, if the school is not at all involved and third parties are treating male athletes at the school far better than women athletes and giving them tons of money that women aren’t getting, there is no Title IX violation, because Title IX only applies to educational institutions receiving federal funds,” Bryant said.

Thanks. Dartmouth’s was just a screw up by the AD and President, and perhaps the in house counsel. Dartmouth tried to eliminated 4 sports including a women’s sport. Dartmouth realize that cutting women’s sport changed the calculation for determining if women had enough scholarships. The case was a lay down. The law firm looked at the allocation of scholarships on the college website and sent a letter. Dartmouth backed off. Dartmouth should have run what they proposed by their outside counsel. Outside expert counsel would have spotted the mistake in 15 minutes. The AD agreed to retire shortly thereafter. He was an arrogant prick who was AD at Williams and had played hoops there.

That you think it is just about players driving a vehicle clearly shows that you don't understand the issue, or you choose to ignore the actual issue
