Tinks gets props

As much as I like Tinkle, I think the present coach at UM will be the one to revive UM basketball. I hate to admit it, but part of the apathy in Missoula for Griz bball might be because of the incredible blow out losses in the NCAA. Decoire doesn't over coach and I think with just a good couple of additions will never be blown away by the Syracuse or Wisconsin types, again....Those losses hurt in more ways than one.

like my fucking wallet!! I lost a boatload of money (ok, that's an exaggeration) on both those games with the Griz unable to even remotely cover the spread.

agree with la griz. i was at the syracuse game, and it was humiliating. not only did we lose, we didn't give the appearance we even tried. not a single adjustment--when it was clear after the first minute we could not walk the ball up the court against that zone. in retrospect, maybe cherry was playing on a bad foot. maybe we couldn't speed it up.

but the biggest effect may have been on tinkle himself. until those two thumpings--wisconsin and syracuse--his stock was on the rise. a couple of big-time analysists had even predicted montana victories, as ludicrous as that sounds now. those guys can be wrong--witness charles barkley, first on yao ming, lately on the warriors--but they can't be humiliated. that hurt tinks greatly.

this year, tinks has an evident enthusiasm that is translating into superior defense. where our field goal percentage was almost the worst in the country, his team right now ranks in the upper echelons. he may be the national collegiate coach of the year this year, and with that wonderful recruiting class coming in next year, he looks unstoppable.

as for us, i'm loving where we are. decuire is a big-time coach. thank god for his redshirt policy. while tinks left us a great recruiting legacy, decuire seems to be a good recruiter in his own right. i like our switching, stifling man-to-man defense. in the end, i think it turned out to be a good deal for both us and for tinks. for both parties, it was time.

P.S. wouldn't it be something if tinks eventually outdid krysko? heh, heh.

I don't think Tinks will out do Krysko in anything involving basketball but that being said he is doing a nice job to date with the Beavers, considering he was left with hardly anybody from last year. That being said I think everybody has overlooked them to date but as the season progresses they will get the full attention of the other teams and probably fall back toward the middle of the pack. Over achieving is a beautiful thing but it can be hard to maintain that consistently the whole season.
