Tinkle comments

Anyone listen to Tinkle's radio show? For those that did not. He summed up Ellis, Dlouhy, Mayes, and Chavez leaving. We have heard that. He commented on a few things in the works for building the program the next year or two. Especially emphasized scheduling.

Apparently we are working on scheduling the likes of Nebraska, Colorado, Gonzaga, Wazzu, Washington, Bay area teams. In general working hard to schedule equal to or larger conferences, mostly WEST of the Mississippi. The GRIZ are doing what they can to strengthen the schedule. Biggest drawback is the larger schools want 2 for 1 schedule. Meaning we go there 1st, them here, then us there. A few schools are very interested in home and home.

Also the program is working hard toward getting funding for hosting a tourney here again. I hear Carl Tyler is willing to fund a fair share to host a tourney. I encourage anyone with the funds to contact the athletic department and help out any way you can.

Tinkle sounds very aware of what needs to be done to please the fans as for a better schedule. The GRIZ are 1st looking at schools for home and home, then 2 for 1's. I hope they can work in some bigger nonconference opponents the next few years. If this can be done, GRIZ nation should do our part in showing up, not only for the bigger name opponents, but every home game. When is tipoff for 07/08 ? :thumb:

Schedule is very important. Glad to see Wayne recognizes that...I just hope he is allowed to do the right thing and that the dictators in the U don't block progressive scheduling...

I give him credit for mentioning it this early. At least we know the coach knows what the fans want and what the team needs in terms of better competition. If this does not happen, I am sure it will not be because of O'Day and/or Tinkle. Limiting the program scheduling will be courtesy of powers to be beyond them. Feel free to read between the lines as you please.

What's wrong with a 2 for 1? Great time to all of a sudden to get uppity, especially when ones' postseason chances at present are nil.

Ya and winning 27 games against mediocre competion sure worked for the ladies.

Heh, i know... I really want to see us play some quality competition and was just randomly spouting off in that first comment. But even so, with a couple quality wins, it would be very very difficult to make it out of the Big Sky Conference as an at-large team.

The point isn't to get an at-large bid. You play against tough competition to get yourself ready for league play. Plus, just in case the team does have a strong year and pulls off an upset - they have the strength of schedule to warrant a higher seed.

I believe fans want to see play against strong teams from the west. I also think that players like this; however, playing too
strong a schedule can backfire.
If you do this you have to
have confidence in building a stronger team. This year the Griz
couldn,t have defeated any of these teams; Coach Tinkle must also
assess his inner circle. I for one thinks he needs to consider
wether his staff interacts well with his players.

last year when you looked at the montana bench, you saw krysko and brad huse; this year, in their place, marso and duchesne. don't tell me it didn't make a huge difference.

No offense intended here, but unless you are at every practice, film session, in the coaches offices, huddles, locker rooms, etc, you have no idea how well they interact and are simply speculating. That is about as accurate as saying spelling errors on Egriz equate to intelligence, rather than poor keyboard skills. :twocents:

Pat Kennedy already ran the stiff competition experiment a few years ago and it worked as well as anything. The most important thing having the talent and then not losing to teams like Portland.
