Time for some pro-Griz propaganda

I mentioned this in another post and I'm not sure if it was noticed. Due to the news about the petition from the professors, I'm giving it its own thread to see what people on here think. Maybe it's time there was a pro-Griz publication that could counter all the anti Griz media that try's to influence the Missoula community into feeling negatively towards the football team, usually with false statements. Maybe there's a couple journalistic types on here that could come up with some positive "propaganda" and counter and call out some of the lies that the Missoulian and Kaimin are trying to spread. As of now, only the true Griz fans know the truth and the uninformed fair weather fans will be persuaded by the negative stories that are published.

I'm a writer, an active sexual violence prevention advocate and have always been a Bobby Hauck fan and supporter. I wrote a guest column in the Missoulian in 2012 essentially stating that it should NOT be a conflict to be pro-Griz and anti-sexual assault. I wrote a book about my love for football (which I'm re-doing now) and I wrote a book about sexual abuse and victim blaming.

As I've sat in the middle, trying to bring a voice of reason and sensibility to both sides, it gets frustrating at times. It's not just that I'm in the middle and reasonable, but I'm passionate about both. I love Grizzly football. I am passionate about sexual abuse education and victim advocacy. I'm with you on this.

But, I think it's imperative to focus on the positive side of things and not get dragged into the gutter and bash those who disagree. Nothing ruins a good PR effort more swiftly than bullying and personal attacks.

Hey to all that read this:

Bobby Hauck is the coach of the Griz football team. He will be the coach for at least three years!
You negative faculty and media people, crawl out from under your rock, and look at reality! What is that? I pay for tickets for Griz football! I pay with donations to UM because of the football! I pay for hotel rooms in Missoula because of Griz football! I pay for food in restaurants in Missoula because of Griz football! I will donate more money to UM and pay more to Missoula businesses because of the hiring of Mr. Bobby Hauck! Now, do you like my money? Shut the hell up and get behind this Griz program!

Thank you Kent Haslam for bringing back Bobby Hauck!

Go Griz!

I have an amazing story about two Grizzly football players that were recruited by and played under Hauck that went out of their way visit and support a sick family member. I posted about it here, about 5-6 years ago. I think Oday may have put it out on either his personal facebook page, or the UM Athletics facebook page, but that was as much press as it ever got. Too much of a feel good story to be published by any newspapers.

True dat! Or "good news is no news."

Actually, the media does put out the occasional "feel good" story. But, I swear, they seem to have a quota -- a small quota -- on those accounts. "Got to spend most of our time serious stuff."

And, have you noticed? They can't seem to resist ending a lot of good-news stories with some version of "This is great, but ..." [other sick kids aren't being visited, other homeless people aren't getting warm cloths, other children are going hungry, etc.]

When my son was in 4th grade (he’s 24 now), his teacher used to have players come in and talk to the kids. I’m thinking maybe Dane Oliver and Dylan McFarland were regulars??

Do they still do stuff like that?

Did you happen to follow the amazing story of the California classroom that Cooper Sprunk basically adopted? He even got the entire class out to the PSU-Griz game. A very cool story that got a little (but not much) attention. It started with him being their pen pal and the class teacher having a connection to UM

I posted this in another thread. I am in for any pro-Griz or pro-Hauck efforts

What's interesting is the backlash and negativity toward Hauck is probably far outweighed by the actual support of Hauck....only you wouldn't know it based on the Davey petition, some crap Missoulian articles, and some even more crappy Kaimin articles. Those who oppose something always seem to be more vocal and do their part to draw attention to their frustration (squeaky wheel gets the grease mentality).

I'm dang-near tempted to start my own petition or platform of some kind in support of the Hauck hire. I have a feeling this platform would blow any of the negative ones out of the water....by a long shot. Would be interesting to see the majority of support that he has instead of listening to or being spoon fed this negativity.

Any good ideas to help accomplish this? Would it be worth looking into?

I remember hearing a little about it once, but that’s it. These are things that are good for the kids and the players. We need more of it, and more credit and appreciation when it happens.

I assume yes. The athletic dept now has a procedure for getting athletes to do anything. I assume Stitt, like the prior coaches, had community service requirements for all players, but don't know.

My wife, a teacher, had 8 players several years ago come to her class/school for a period of time. She had 4 in her room, and got another teacher to take 4. Derek Crittendon had set this up with her and was one of the guys. Matt Hermasen was one. They did Readers Theatre. They tutored. Whatever. One 2d grader looked at Will Poehls, now 6'8", 340, on the first day and said: "How did you get to be so huge?" Will liked to help kids struggling in math, and was good at it.

Colter does a great job on radio focusing on the positive side of Hauck & the Griz

BINGO!

And therein lies the problem. The entities that make an attempt to counter the bad publicity are usually just frequented by the people that already agree with there opinions. Similar to having a march in Helena. Lets make some signs, come up with some chants, borrow a megaphone, meet up and yell about how bad other people are and then pat each other on the back and go home. Job well done.

The general population is influenced by what they are most familiar with. The nightly news and the local papers. It's clear that the higher ups at the Missoulian are anti Hauck, and "secretly" anti Griz Football.

Amie I think is doing what she can but her hands are tied. Remember when she approached her supervisors asking them not to publish the most graphic photos of Reese laying on the field?

We all know how that ended.

Yes, but you will rarely hear about it in the local media.

Maybe plan a rally of sort at a basketball game. Everybody bring signs in support of Hauck. It will have to get some play in the media as well as give the basketball team a full house of supporters to play in front of.

The Grizzly football players have long been the scapegoats for the UM administration (firing Pflu and ODay after Engstrom turned that Muslim student loose so he could avoid rape papers being served when Engstroms plan to fill our enrollment with foreign Arabs caused so much assault and rape in Missoula:( :( :(
It's hard to fly like an eagle when you are being led by turkey's!!! God Bless Bobby Hauck and family!!! :) :) Go Griz!
