Elin Woods has daughter just after U.S. Open

Less than 24 hours after Woods finished second at the U.S. Open on Father's Day, his wife gave birth to a daughter. Woods announced on his Web site -- www.tigerwoods.com -- that Sam Alexis Woods was born early Monday morning.

"Both Elin and Sam are doing well and resting peacefully," Woods wrote. "We want to thank our doctors and the hospital staff for all their dedicated and hard work. This is truly a special time in our lives and we look forward to introducing Sam to our family and friends over the next few weeks. We thank everyone for their well wishes and continued respect of our privacy."

Woods said he would miss a major if it meant seeing the birth of his child. Now he won't have to, but it's not clear how his upcoming schedule will be affected.

He's scheduled to host a tournament in Washington, D.C., from July 5-8. The British Open starts July 19, and the PGA Championship begins Aug. 9 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

"I'm pacing myself already just because of the fact that I have a baby coming up," Woods said about two weeks ago. "I don't know how much I'm going to play after that or how much I'm going to play before that. A lot of that is depending on what happens and the health of Elin and our child."


That has got to be one fine looking baby.

You are nuts. He is 1-1-2-2 in the last 4 majors. Guess how many times Jack Nicklaus finished second in a major? Alos, that MYTH about never coming from behind in a major is stupid. Anyone who has followed his career knows very well how many times he has been behind in the final round, only to comeback and win. Tyhe media has to find some angle, sure, technically they are right because he wasn't trailing on the teebox, but I can name several majors he "rallied " in.

I agree with your post. I know that none of these guys would be making the bucks they are without Tiger. He is well liked on Tour where a guy like Mickelson is not. The players refer to Mickelson as FIGJAM ( Fuck I am Good, Just ask me).

Tiger has done a ton of charity work and given millions away. When it is all said and done, I think Tiger will be known almost as much for humanitarian work as his golf exploits. :twocents:

I think Jack finished 2nd in 19 majors. I was anti-Tiger until I watched him almost run down Michael Campbell 2 yrs. ago at Pinehurst. What a competitor!!! Plus he doesn't cry about the conditions of the course like a lot of pros. (uh, Phil?) Like him or hate him, you ARE watching the greatest golfer ever, bar none!!!

What he's done is amazing, no one can deny that. However, it looks like he needs to sleep on that lead to get the win. he doesn't have the same confidence, the same "there's no fucking way i'm losing this tournament" attitude when he doesn't start sunday with a lead. The mental preparation is different. I'm sure this will eventually come to an end but when would be a better time than sunday when a majority of the final groups were made up of a bunch of nobodies?

I'm not trying to bash tiger, i'm a huge tiger fan, but he needs to get over this hump. not need. i don't know. it's just something he could improve on.

It's not so much that Tiger doesn't have any good rivals, its just that he is so leaps and bounds above everybody else, that there is no possible way to beat him when he is on the money. Tiger is the kind of golfer that if he is hot, Phil or Vijay could shoot a 63 and Tiger would go out and shoot a 60 just for the hell of it.

That being said, I must agree with an earlier statement that Tiger needs to learn how to charge on Sunday. If he has a lead, there is no doubt that he'll keep it but he has yet to prove that he can mount a good rally. I think the US Open was a great example of that because it just seemed (at least in my eyes) like Tiger waited too long to be aggressive and when he did, the shots just weren't falling for him (My mouth dropped when he missed that birdie putt on 13. It's still hanging open.) Even on a course like Oakmont I was shocked that Tiger didn't nail one birdie in the final round (He finished the Open in like a 30-hole birdie drought), and I think he just needed to do a better job of applying pressure rather than waiting for the other competitors to falter.

It is amazing though that Tiger Woods finishing 2nd place finish in a major is pretty much as bad as finishing in a tie for 30th in both Tiger's eyes and the public's. And maybe that's a reason why the Zach Johnsons and the Cabreras can win these majors is because of a lack of pressure. Who knows, I guess thats the beast of what he has created.

But all the being said, I really think there is no doubt that Tiger is going to bust the hell out of that record. He hasn't relly even hit his prime yes and judging by what he was wearing on Sunday, that boy is as physically fit as ever.

What do you mean didn't birdie one hole on Sunday? He had a kick in birdie when he just missed eagle on #5, That 30 hole stretch was actually 17, and it spanned two days.

As for Tiger never coming from behind, also somewhat a myth, though technically correct. Sure,m he hasn't won when the 4th round started and he trailed, but did you happen to watch him come from way back in several USGA events, and he trailed in the PGA on Sunday and cam back to win it, making major putts to do so. It isn't that he can't do it, it is that he generally doesn't have to. His winning percentage is highest in history. Tiger is 30, and has a dozen majors already, Jack won his 18th at age 46.

On emore thing, Tigers wife gave birth the next day, Not a doubt in my mind that even the great Tiger had that in the back of his mind, though he never makes excuses. He said nothing but kind things about Cabrerra.

On a side note, it will be interesting to see what the USGA does with Cabrerra's smoking at next year's Open. It is being played at Torrey Pines in san Diego, whihc is a municipal course, under the jurisdiction of the Parks Dept, which means Smoking is Prohibited.

How many others were able to give Jack a challenge? Pro-golf wasn't quite the phenomena it is today. Jack had Arnold early in his career and basically Watson late in his career. Sure there were a few other big names, but probably less than a dozen or so real contenders each week. Now you have way more honest competitors that can win each week.

I'm not claiming Tiger to be the best ever.... yet. But to be the defending champ at 4 straight majors is something no one else has ever done. Wining 6 times in a row on tour is a very rare accomplishment. What he is doing in a world of golf where players are bigger and stronger and courses are getting longer and longer is nothing short of amazing. And I think the best is yet to come.

I don't watch golf and if I did I would quit because of media created Tiger machine. Too many endorsements, too many commercials, too much coverage. He seems like a great guy, donates lots of money, and stays out of trouble, but the media coverage make him unlikeable to me.

His wife is very average to, she is not hot.
