Three Big Sky teams make CIT (no Griz)

Northern Colorado, North Dakota and Portland State all made the College Insider post season tourney. Montana, despite having a higher season-ending RPI than the other three, was not invited.

A big blow to the Montana program, but not a surprise, given their one & done performance at the Big Sky tourney.

Sigh....given our performance just as well move away from a season down the drink! We don't deserve a post season bid

...hope our ladies get a shot at the NIT

Damn, this season just got even more disappointing. Then again, UNC and Portland State had winning records against us this season. UND finished better in the regular season and did much better in the conference tournament. Hard to dispute the decision by the CIT. Good luck to all Big Sky conference teams in the post season.

Unfortunately the highlights of Griz results in March rely on remembering two events gathering dust in the record books: UM losing out to UCLA by 3 points 40 years ago and beating Nevada in the opening round of the NCAA's 8 years ago (before suffering a beat down by Boston College)...I'm open to others if you can name 'em?

I'm surprised the Griz didn't get in the CIT. The Griz's RPI is 186. Here are the RPIs of some teams that got into the CIT.

Alabama State: #257
Texas A&M CC: #251
Portland State: #250
Chattanooga: #248
Brown: #230
East Carolina: #217
Nebraska-Omaha: #214
UNC: #213
UND: #211
Grand Canyon: #205
Valparaiso: #190

The Griz gave New Mexico a great game in the 2009-2010 tournament. They also gave Washington a good game as a 16 seed in 2004-2005. Kamar Davis was the best player on the court that day (24 points, 11 rebounds).

The game against Boston College wasn't what I'd consider a "beat down" either. The Griz were down by 2 halftime but the Dudley and Smith were just too much for them in the 2nd half. That Boston College team had 3 players on it who ended up in the NBA. I'd say the Griz did pretty well against them. Had Criswell and Matthews not both been cold shooting who knows... Hell, we were one shot away from playing 11 seed Pacific in that game instead of BC. Still think that call that gave Smith FTs against Pacific to send it into the 2nd overtime (where BC won) was pure bullshit... :P

The CIT and CBI are pay to play. With the school having budget problems maybe it was decided that it wasn't worth it.
