The war on football starting to have an impact

From the article:

An annual survey released Friday morning by the National Federation of State High School Associations revealed that the number of students playing 11-man football in the United States has declined 6.7 percent since its peak in 2009. The 1,038,179 boys and girls who participated during the 2017-18 school year represent 11-man football’s lowest total since 2004.

At least a dozen high schools across the country have announced this summer that they’re not fielding varsity football teams in 2018, a diverse list that includes former state champions in Indiana and Virginia. Countless other schools have compensated for declining turnout by dropping from 11- to eight-man football or eliminating their freshman or JV teams.

I imagine it will open the door to other warrior sports like rugby, hockey and lacrosse. I love football and believe we will always need an outlet for testing each other in battle. (Other than actual battle, which it would appear from a distance, sucks).

Played hockey through high school and college because golfers and tennis players were pussies and I was better at hockey than football. I now play golf and take shots in my shoulders to ward off surgery. I rarely wish I'd never played hockey but then there are those days when the shots wear off I can't lift a pounder with my left arm....Still looking for a few of my teeth too.

Rugby is moving up the ladder in the US and the US national teams are better, especially the Eagle 7's men's team. They are top 5 or so now. Eagle women's have been up there for a long time. Lacrosse is gaining popularity too. Wish I had played it prior to the winter of my freshman year in college. Great game.

A turkey like you couldn’t carry water to the pussy tennis players.

Those shots are no dang fun whatsoever!
Just had my first one about 2 months ago.
Many sports to blame, but mostly, it was swinging a Pulaski until my early 40’s.

I always figured you for a chain gang type, DuCharme :)

Although I agree the media has been attacking football the last few years, Football itself hasn't been doing it any favors. Baylor, Penn State, Assaults on every campus, and now Maryland. In order to save the sport you need to get the people responsible for these heinous acts out of football forever, otherwise the friendly fire will continue.

What a pussy response. No context. Only true today, but my ortho says I’ll be carrying all kinds of water after November scoping cleanups.

I’d like to point out I played football for 7 years, wrestled for 7, played baseball for 12 and have coached wrestling for 11 years and received 2 concussions...in car accidents. We should regulate people running into my shit while I’m driving. People are really jumping the gun on this. There is little research on CTE, before this is all said and done everything will cause it and we’ll be walking around in plastic bubbles.
