The University of Montana "Death Spiral" Thread

I first noted back in February 2017, and hundreds of times since then, that the University of Montana is in a "Death Spiral."

A Death Spiral is a well-known phenomenon that involves funding shortages, budget cuts to make up for those shortages, staff layoffs, more funding shortages, bad football coaches, losses caused by bad coaches, loss of revenues caused by losses, more funding shortages, having to keep around old, washed-up staffers instead of hiring the best and brightest, more shortages caused by not having the best and brightest, more layoffs, people having to read stuff like this and getting all bummed out, more budget cuts to deal with all the bummed out people who need health care, more shortages, staff cuts, you know, that sort of thing.

Anyway, now we come to find out that an actual PhD has adopted the sacred "Death Spiral" moniker:

Don't you all wish you would have paid attention the first time I noted this? That's okay, I forgive you. I'm a bigger man than you are for being so forgiving, but today is the first day of Lent, and I plan to drop a few pounds by giving up hamburger.

Where was I? Christ, I can't even remember.

Just watch, the so-called Moderators won't take any action when trolls come on this thread and go off-topic. But when I go on somebody else's thread and stay on-topic, they'll punish me for being such an ass. I'm serious, just wait and see.

Figure skating element

Element name: Death spiral

Scoring abbreviation: Ds

Disciplines: Pair skating

Death spiral is a required element of pair skating performed with the man in a pivot position, one toe anchored in the ice. Holding his hand, the woman circles her partner on a deep edge with her body almost parallel to the ice. In 2011, the ISU introduced a requirement that the woman's head must at some time reach the level of her skating knee in order to receive a value.[1] The man should be in a full pivot position, and the death spiral must be held for a minimum amount of rotation, depending on the level.

Great point. I agree 100%!

I read that 81% of the UofMs budget is spent of staff????? If that is the case thats freaking mind blowing.

Most universities on the high end of staff spending like the Ivys generally spend about 60% of the budget on staffing.....

It appears that Engstroms gross mismanagement of the school may have had even more people collecting a free check than ever thought? I'd be interested in learning more about this.

Depending on the score next November in Bozeman, I'll be passing out free kool-aid next to the Shit Pond after the game to celebrate the "Death Spiral".

Not even sure I would say "likely". You seem to forget that Politics is involved.
