The Trojans and Griz

Stuck in my house due to Rose Bowl mania, I am forced to watch USC getting clobbered by Georgia Tech, the school with the same fight song as Montana and it occurs to me that the two are highly similar in that they dominated their conferences but events involving incredibly bad judgement have led to a downward path. Both schools lack good coaching and suffer from cronyism. Both have alumni that are angry and demanding change and both are under intense scrutiny by the NCAA...both have rabid fan bases that expect to win and both get the talent that is generally considered among the top in their divisions. Both predict good years and are generally rated higher because of history and both end up losing, more often than not, as a result of all that...But, UM does not have the assets or the world view of USC so one will recover quickly, the other...time will tell....For now, Cardinal Red rules...HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

The biggest difference I see is that USC had more than a competent QB this year. Then again, the Griz O could have done some running on that USC D.

Another difference: all the starting O starters, and I would imagine by now most of the D starters, are getting ENDOWED scholarships at USC (source--SI). Can you imagine the pressure to perform being laid out there by the well-heeled alums funding these?

true and thus putting emphasis on a coach that truly knows how to get everyone on the same page at the same time with the same goals..neither UM nor USC seem to have that. Having the best players is no guarantee of success. In fact, it might be the opposite. Both of these institutions seem to have lost sight of a great many things that brought such huge success in the past. I know USC will do what it takes to right their ship, but UM, not so sure. The trouble seems to come from the highest places though, being so far away, I might be wrong. But when the University President can act as he has with no explanation to the fans, tax payers, supporters, students, employees, and alumni, I see little hope for a revival of the program any time soon. Oh, well, it is a new year coming and things change...sometimes for the better.

LA,

I'm a Pac 12 fan but I have to say, you reap what you sow. Last year that town had the two biggest dirt bag coaches in the country--and that is saying something. UCLA made a great move, now it's SC's turn.

Totally agree for SC to make a move on head coach. SC is going to be down with limited scholarships, they might as well be down while in transition of head coach. Might as well let the new head coach build the program from the ground up.

Their seems to be very little similarities between USC's head coach and MD. I would compare LK more to BH based on ego alone. I am not a huge fan of MD, but I think it is a cheap shot to compare him to LK. Some probably think it is a cheap shot to compare Bobby H to LK, but I just can't help myself.

Agree 100%. LK is a dirtbag.
