The Next Big Thing at each position

I know this has been kinda talked about the last couple of weeks here but I thought I'd expand it a bit to every position. Plus it's spring and we ain't got much eles to talk about. Who do you think the next star at each position will be. Not the guys who are currently the leaders but who's next.

QB
Toss up between Chalich and Simis with Prater making a push. My money's on Simis. He's a coaches kid with good size(6'2") and some running ability(500+ rushing yards as a Sr). He was Idaho's southern conference player of the year his Sr year and threw 51 TD's in two years. As a Fr at Montana, he was the scout team player of the year.

RB
As much as I like the Nguyen brothers(I think I'm in the minority), I've been big on Logwood since he got here. Unfortunately for him and Favors, a fellow named Justin Calhoun will be showing up in fall and will eventually take alot of playing time from everyone eles. Fast and strong, he may be one of the most gifted RB's to don a Griz uni. If he dosnt earn the starting spot some time this year, he should next year.

WR
Josh Jannsen is the current rising star but he will soon be replaced by Dalton Daum. Daum might RS this year but next year he should be starting and by his So year he will be the best receiver on the team(not counting any future commits). Mabey the fastest guy on the team and in Stitts words he's a football player that's fast, not a track star playin football. Reese Carlson could also make a push after winning the scout team POY last year but I think Dalton is just a superior athlete.

OL
This is the hardest position to pick a star because the line is the position that needs to work together the most. Ben Weyer will join the returning John Schmaing as the two best players on the line but Robert Luke will be the best player not starting and after another year of development under Germer(he never RS'd), he could become the rock of the line.

DL
Zack Peevey will join Caleb Kidder as the best of the line but Mau Ena may finish his career as the best DT to play at Montana if he lives up to the hype.

LB
Tucker Schye, Tucker Schye, and Tucker Schye. He's the obvious choice. Cy Sirmon is another that in a year or two will be battling for the top LB. Josh Buss is another I've liked from day one. He was a beast in high school on offence but hasn't started on D since his So year when he started at safety. He runs real hard and physical. He's also lettered in wrestling and Lacrosse and is a two time high school All-American in Lacrosse. If he can adapt to the speed of college football on D, he's my dark horse pick.

DB
(A)Manu Rassmussen
(B)Evan Epperly
(C)Ryan McKinley
(D)All of the Above.
The secondary is gonna be wide open next year. Four Sr's graduate making room for alot of promising new faces. The three listed above were all highly regarded recruits and all will be So's in '16 looking for starting rolls. This years class includes Markell Sanders who should be battling for a starting spot this year and incoming Fr Josh Sandry and Jerrin Williams.
I'm leaning towards Rassmussen as the star and leader but there's a lot of good horses in this race and its gonna be wide open.

Am in agreement about Luke, but look for a new name - Villanueva, in the fall. I said in the previous post that by the time they kick it off on the 29th, the line will be one othe the two strengths of the offense. The RB's being the other, am sure Logwood will be a workhorse early and often.

Don't sell Holmes and/or Crittenden short. They will be significantly better if the DT's are good. And you're right, Ena will be a beast.

The back seven will be the key to a successful season on D. Safety play is critical, but my bet is on Sanders. Look @'how well things went with a guy like Tru anchoring a side. Was worried about LB depth, but it may wind up being the strongest of the group if guys like TS & JB can step up.

I believe the Calhoun that played RB was Jeremy, but either way....as we predicted in a previous thread they should have a bright future at UM.

I'm not even going to try to make any prediction at QB or WR, too many guys that have a lot of time in the weight room and on the field ahead of them. Colin Bingham's tape was impressive though, big and strong and played with a real mean attitude. I think he is one that will pick up his game to the college level real fast.

Next big thing, IMO;

QB - no clue. I'm teetering between Gus and Simis.

RB - Lorenzo Logwood. What a find this guy has been. Powerful runner, could be our next Jordan Canada type of guy. A workhorse back that blocks pretty well too.

WR - toss up, and maybe not this year but I'm liking what I'm seeing from Nico Graham and Reese Carlson. Graham has dramatically improved this off-season, he's incredibly quick and athletic. Carlson is budding into a killer possession WR.

OL - Ben Weyer. The time is now. This guy looks like the leader of the group. He looks like he's picking up the more physical and intimidating style that Germer teaches. We've got two years of Ben leading this group and they're in good hands, IMO.

DL - Caleb Kidder. Finally healthy this guy is a wrecking ball.

LB - hard to say, we know the first 6 out the gate already.

CB - Ryan McKinley, this guy is almost ready. Has the size and skills, needs some experience. JR Nelson is another too, he's looking more like the complete corner.

DB - all the hype (so far) around Manu Rassmussen is real.

I've seen a lot of Josh Sandry on the Bball court the last two years at the State B tournaments. He's one of the best looking HS athletes I've seen in a long time. 6'2" with an unbelievable vertical. Ripped body, quick, strong hands and really, really physical. I think this kid's ceiling is sky high. I think he will open eyes quickly.

He didn't show that kind of promise in the CPSLO game when he replaced Van Ackeren; big dropoff.

That's what you're going to base it on? One game?

Mark my words....With Strahm, Schye et. al., LB is in very good hands for the next 2-3 years.

So what game experience do you base your opinion?

Same game experience we're basing any of these other "guesses" on. None. 8-) Other than the fact he was an absolute beast in Oregon HS ball.

I'll go with the flow. Right now each guess (pick) is as good as another. All the names picked by the southerner "Alabama" is pointed in the right direction. I am curious, did Alabama show a southern drawl when he picked these guys?
