EWU will lose to Illinois State. They're badass defense doesn't have a chance.

It was their "bad" defense that dominated us for most of the game. I was at the game. It was full. Our fans were few and quiet.
I hope EWU wins there and moves on to win it all. It would make losing to them easier for Griz fans and be good for the conference. But, their facilities are truly bad and even laughable. Yet, their teams win in football and basketball this year. Somebody over there knows something...and should get credit they are due.

Uhhh, Griz Voice of Reason, I have made zero excuses for the Griz. EWU IS a BETTER FOOTBALL TEAM. PERIOD. But this thread isn't about that, it's about attendance and it wasn't full, and the announced attendance was nearly 1,000 below capacity. There were tons of empty seats, and obviously, the "Keep Montana out of Roos Field" project worked to perfection. I guess I was naive' though because while I had no problem with EWU fans buying up all the tickets, as it's THEIR stadium, I didn't honestly believe they would buy the tickets and NOT come to the game. That part I just can't comprehend. That's just really bizarre to me. Why wouldn't you do both? Keep Griz fans out of Cheney and come cheer on your favorite team? The fact that a lot of Eagles' fans intentionally chose to eat tickets is just bizarre to me.

I started this thread from the game, several minutes after kickoff. I was in a very full Griz section across from many empty seats in the main stadium EWU seating area and in their north end zone seating. Our area was pretty loud for the only 500 allotted seats. We certainly were not quiet.

I posted it because it was surprising given the hype, not to start a thread about facilities.

It only comes down to football, not fans, not turf, not stadiums. Just results.

Congrats to EWU and good luck through the rest of the playoffs.

Lets put this in perspective...EWU has dominated the last 5 years in the Big Sky...with all of this occurring....Montana went through the worst time for the program basically ever...totally had to reboot everything....brought in a coach from retiring to keep our program afloat and we were still able to compete with EWU and advance in the playoffs...all while EWU has enjoyed...its BEST COACH it will ever have...the BEST PLAYER in VA they will ever have...so ya I'd say enjoy the 5 years you've had, youre about to lose your coach, VA has one year left...meanwhile we are upgrading our facilities to be on par with Mountain West facilities ( oh FYI that took us a year to get that plan off the ground...hows the PIPEDREAM project of yours going??? Whats it been 6 years now?) all while bringing in a new coach. I'm pretty sure were headed in the right direction...so enjoy the best years of your programs shitty life....EWU reminds me of a 15 yr old boy that got to feel up a super model...and shall we say "peaked" to early...meanwhile Montanas been fucking models for years!!!!

Jesus H. Would you people please take a step back and look at what you're doing here? EWU beats you twice in one year, four in a row, five out of the last six games, and you have to start a thread about how shitty their facilities are, and how good the Griz have it with their billionaire sugar daddy, silver spoon doners, and ever improving world class facilities? Plus most of your post just doesn't make any sense. So you're going to land the next Chip Kelly, but EWU is going to land a shitty coach? After Kramer, Wulff, Baldwin? And after VA graduates they're going to suck, because they don't have a history of landing excellent QB's the past 10, 15 years? Gawd people, wake up. EWU isn't going anywhere - and the upper echelon of the Big Sky, MSU, CP, UM, is going to have to up our GAME... to keep up.

I didn't start the thread, and what I'm saying is Montana is coming away from our worst coach and scenario in a very long time, still being able to compete with EWU during a time when EWU has its best coach its ever had, and its best player to come through its doors in VA...ya you will continue to be good, but you guys were good when you were our little bitch as well...and that's the point we will soon return to...EWU being a good team, but Montanas little bitch..write it down troll and come talk to me in 3 years!

He's totally right. Reading this stuff from Griz fans is embarrassing. Eastern is better right now and we need to accept it, congratulate them , and work hard to correct it. Period!

Entire post is pretty much sour grapes. We have two Payton award winners not named Vernon Adams, so there goes your theory about not having great QB's before he came along. Three of them play professionally, two in the CFL. One just won the Grey Cup.

Coaches - yep Baldwin's a great coach. He had a solid base to build on.

Also, Montana's problems the past few years have nothing to do with EWU, so I'm not even sure why you bring that up.

FYI - the Stadium project was announced in 2012. That's not six years ago. It took UW 8 years from flash to bang to get theirs done.

Im just putting it in perspective that it was a perfect storm that led to EWUs dominance the last 5 years...yes of course the team is good, but they were also good before and Montana still dominated the Big Sky. All I'm saying is that we are on the way to returning to that point, while EWU will most likely not sustain the success they've had the last 5 years for another 5 years.

That is just something you're hoping for. Reasonable people that follow FCS and the Big Sky specifically understand that the griz will never, ever get back to where they were. That's not smack - that is a compliment to how good and dominant you used to be. You aren't going to magically jump back into being the kings of the Big Sky because Washington's kids just gave you millions of dollars. MSU, EWU, CP are continuing to improve their programs every year, as well as several other up and comers in the Big Sky. Plus with thirteen teams now - no single team is going to go on a run like UM did. In fact, this next coaching hire is extremely critical. This could lead you back to where you compete for a Big Sky title, or you could fall back to a .500 team (or worse :o ) for a few years. Will be interesting to see how things play out.

That's more your opinion than anything, and one which you are certainly entitled to.

But under the same reasoning, I could argue that Montana would have never made the run it did had UNR, BSU, and Idaho not left the Big Sky in the mid-90's. Montana was gaining steam prior to their departure, but had those three not left, it could certainly be argued that Montana would not have sustained the kind of success it did after their departure.,,one might even call it a "perfect storm". ;)

It took some time, but other teams have stepped up and become more competitive. That doesn't mean that Montana won't improve it's record, win Big Sky titles, go to the playoffs, etc...but it's very doubtful that the level of dominance it enjoyed from 1995-2009 will return. It's just a different time, and a different conference.

Oh I agree with that, I'm just talking about going to and competing for Nattys again...and you mention perfect storm again, does that mean EWU is waiting for Montana to jump into the Mountain West and leave the rest of the Big Sky licking its wounds?

Honestly I think it would be a great thing for the conference of EWU gets its stadium expansion going. For the longest time we have complained how poor facilities and fan support in the Big Sky are, and it looks like EWU is slowly getting to respectable numbers. Plus, having a highly-competitive team in EWU forces the Griz to keep playing at a high level, much like UM for years forced the big sky to improve just to keep up. As much as I dislike Eastern, they have a good team and a program on the rise. That in no way will make our program any less or our fan base decrease. It'll only be a bigger accomplishment for our team to beat them, and vice versa. I enjoy having another game to look forward to each year, where as the rest of the schedule (not including Poly) is left to be desired.
