Don Read recorded the last win at Dornblaser and the first win at Washington Griz stadium in 1986. Larry complained that Dornblaser hampered recruiting efforts. He was right, the changes to UM athletic facilities have been numerous and have helped propel recruiting.
What can we learn from Don? A coach with Humbolt beginings thought outside the box with his offensive schemes and did things the right way. He coached the right way, even when though it didn't show on the win column at times. When the Griz beat Oregon State, season ticket holders and long time OSU fans commented that that Griz team was the best coached and most disiplined team they had seen.
Don set a standard for future coaches at UM. Some have had better records and one a National Title. It's nice to see the ship under the helm of a guy that is following suit. Stitt's doing things the right way, he has his coaching staff, the roster is filling with his recruits. No one knows his future, but he brings back memories of the Don.
