Yesterday at this time, I could not have been filled with greater anticipation of a special day in the life of a basketball junkie. It was all I could do to concentrate on a few office issues, because at 3 p.m. our beloved Griz would be taking on Washington, a team that got killed by a Gonzaga team that we'd lost to by three. At five, I'd be able to watch Tres Tinkle play--my first time ever-- and get an assessment of how Tinks's team was looking. And then the Grand Capper, the dazzling Warriors beating the Bucks to become the first team in NBA history to sweep a seven-game road trip, on their way to a record 34 straight NBA wins.
Well, that's life, isn't it? High highs and low lows. Everything is cyclical. So yesterday, I got one low out of the way.
As for our Griz, take note: Almost half our points were scored by true freshmen, DeCuire's recruits. With two more, plus Ahmad Rorie, on the way, we soon will have athletes like Montana has never seen before, to battle these bigger programs. And, boy, will we need them. That Kansas defense looked formidable. They play at another level, far higher than Washington or the Gonzaga team we just played. Look out!
