Can't go to the gym. Can't go out to dinner with friends, or up to Sacto to see the Griz, or to a baseball game or an art museum. My sports bar boarded up, surviving on GoFundMe. Haven't seen family or been on a plane in a year. So many favorite restaurants and businesses gone forever. In short, one miserable effing year.
But while I still can catch the Griz on Pluto, I know the price our kids and all kids are paying for this: Stringent health protocols, mask-wearing and sitting apart from teammates at games. Staying two nights in strange towns. Weird starting times. Playing in empty gyms to no fans. Risking their health on planes.
This is not what any of our players or coaches signed up for so let's give a shout out to both our Griz and the Cats for playing this Thursday, a game we're all looking forward to, and for shining this light in a dark time.
