1st of all to Matt and Andrew. As for this fan, sorry the last 2 years fell a little short. However, let me say "Thanks for 4 years of your lifes. Thank you for your blood, sweat, and tears. Thanks for 2 NCAA tourney runs and a memorable upset of Nevada. Thanks for bringing this fan joy in your time here. " :thumb:
Everyone else this is to each of you. This fan wants to see Montana Basketball taken to all time highs, and am hoping the 08/09 season is a new beginning toward that. I am confident each player already knows what needs to be worked on in the offseason as a team and individuals. Speaking of offseason, "Champions are made in the offseason." Each of you are talented and have your strengths and weaknesses. The question is "How are all of you going to gel into one cohesive championship team?" All us here can try telling you how, but only you can find that answer. It starts with the 3 H's: Heart, Head, and Hustle. Combine that with the D's: of Desire and Defense.
I hope each of you collectively commit to working on all necessary to make you good defensive players and rebounders. You guys need to make those things a "GIVEN" every offseason workout, every scrimmage, every practice, and every game. From what I have seen at stages from each returnee, here is what I hope you work on.
Hasquet: Please realize this team will be depending on you for your experience and leadership. You have already proven every fan wrong regarding your skill and attitude. Your game and attitude is that of the best player in this conference. Question is how can you pass your traits onto your teammates? As for your game, be willing to become the man to continue the inside scoring tradition when called upon. Rebounding, your capable of averaging 10 per night next year, if you do that, this team will be incredible in your last year here. I hope in the offseason you add some ballhandling and quickness to your game. You have earned the right to be the Fiery leader of this team on and off the court. Keep in mind this will be your SR year, do not let anyone keep you from leaving your mark on this program. I hope you and your fellow SR are chomping at the bit for a conference championship and willing to anything necessary for that. You have earned it!!!!
Sharp: This program will need your experience and leadership too. They need you to be willing to bang every game, and along with Hasquet be willing to pick up the pieces left behind by Andrew. Do not let anyone slack now on forward. Use your warrior mentality toward motivating others, and becoming a rebounding beast next year.
Rundles: I hope the rumors are not true. If you do come back, just learn what to say when, and how to do it to motivate whoever it is. You are a very talented player, just let the game come to you. Regain your confidence in taking the ball to hole, and use your desire toward becoming a shutdown defensive guard.
Staudacher: It looks to me that the SG job is pretty much all yours. There is no doubt as to how great of a shooter you are. I hope in the offseason you add some more ballhandling, penetrating, and quickness to your game. I have a feeling you will do just that.
McGillis: I have touched on this in other posts here. Let your desire, passion, heart, and hustle become a staple to all your teammates. Physically I know you are ready. Be willing to be one of the leaders on this team.
Taylor: This progam sorely needs your versatility and well rounded game. Keep your attitude as it is and get in the weight room for your time you will see as a 3.
Selvig: Keep hitting that weightroom and work on your quickness. Your skills are already there, but this team needs a physical presence also. I hope the weight room will gain you the strength needed to bang and score inside.
Hurley: Continue hitting the weight room and working out. Offensively, your game is fine. I hope you work on your ballhandling and quickness.
Spurgetis: Do all you can to get your attitude to rub off on everyone, and contribute as you always have. I hope you never lose your heart and attitude.
Qvale: Your defensive game is great already. This team sorely needs inside offense and attitude from you. Physically, you are close to being there already. Fortunate for you most of what you need work on are on the court things. I hope to see you and big Dave become rebounding, shotblocking, and inside scoring forces that no opponent will be looking forward to playing.
Vanderjagt: You have alot of natural talent. Dedicate yourself to the weight room, and work on your inside scoring.
Graves: ballhandling and ball distribution, weights, and perimeter game.
CET: Keep progressing forward. Add a little to your perimeter shot, some ballhandling for penetrating, and little quickness to shutdown that little Dominguez. Also I hope you add some willingness to lead out there along with Hasquet.
Ward and Stockton: Welcome aboard guys. The 1st thing you guys can bring that I know you already have is a contagious winning attitude. I look forward to supporting you guys the next 4 years.
Final note: Loyd Philips, you know you want to be a GRIZ. We in GRIZNATION want you here too. :thumb:
Now go get it done in the offseason boys. If for any reason to get the skeptics here to shutup. You all do the above things, I know a BSC championship will be the outcome in 08/09, with a 12 seed again. Good luck guys, and thanks again Matt and Andrew. :thumb:
