I don’t post a whole lot, so just to remind you…I grew up in Moorhead, MN right across the river from Fargo. I attended all Bison home games growing up. They are my number 1 team. However, I started following the Griz after they played the Bison in ’03 and when I moved to MT 10 yrs ago I became a big fan. I moved back to ND about 5 months ago. My daughter goes to UM so it was a good excuse to get out and spend time with her.
I have attended a few games at WA-Griz and was excited to bring a few friends to experience Missoula and the Zoo that is game day. You guys didn’t disappoint. A buddy of mine and I spent Friday afternoon downtown and a quick trip to Big Sky Brewery. When I told my buddy how many breweries are in Missoula, he asked, “what is this some sort of Heaven?” Loved the burger at Mo Club and pizza at Biga P. The entire afternoon we had people welcoming us to Missoula, asking if we were enjoying ourselves and having a good time. Had a couple people ask us if we’re being treated well. This of course was along with good football talk with Missoula fans.
Game day we spent some time at the NDSU tailgate and then over at the beer garden. Again, people walking up and asking us if we’re enjoying ourselves. Good football discussions all around. My buddy said that NDSU could learn a thing or two about tailgating from Montana.
The game was incredible. When the Bison got the ball the first time he looked at me and said “That’s loud. That’s crazy. This is like Viking’s Metrodome loud.” We came out of the game on the losing end, but I honestly would prefer that game over a Bison blowout. I told a few people before I left ND for the game that I guarantee you if the Bison lose I will walk out of that stadium with a smile on my face. That is exactly what happened.
After the game, there were no disparaging remarks, just a couple “good game guys” as we walked to the car. At the hotel that night a guy saw my Bison shirt and said “tough loss.” I looked at him and said, “no it wasn’t. That was amazing.”
Thank you Griz Nation for a great experience. May we meet again after November. Preferably in January. How epic would that be to meet in Frisco?
Hail Bison! Up with Montana, boys!
