Team 3%, GRIZ moving up the ladder nationally

On November 5, I posted at egriz that I would not be surprised if the GRIZ hit near 40% from 3 this year, which is quite amazing at any level from 3 as a team.

Coming into this weekend the GRIZ were ranked 27th nationally at 39.8% clip according to ESPN.com. According to Montanagrizzlies.com they are now at 40.7%, if that is accurate, that should move them up to #12 nationally, tied with Notre Dame. IUPUI lead the nation at 43.4 %.

As for team FG%, we entered this weekend #38 at 47.5% clip. We are now at 48.0%, which should rank #24 tied with Oregon and NAU.

Interesting enough Montana St entered this weekend at 75% FT %, which ranked 23rd nationally.

In conference play, Staudacher is hitting at 49.0% and Martin at 42.6%, Hasquet at 40.9%, Sharp now 60.0%. Kind of funny Strait is at 100%.

Anyway being ranked this high in 3% and fg% and getting better every game is a very good sign offensively. Maybe this team is buying into what Tinkle is selling. It sure looks like it, and FT% will come together as well. :thumb:

I agree with you. Hitting the three really opened up Strait in the second half and Hasquet taking it to the basket off the dribble. I truly believe that the we finally hit our free throws last night as well. What was our free throw % last night by the way?

Entering this weekends games with Sac and NAU the GRIZ are now ranked 13th nationally in 3% and tied for 27th in fg%. The offense seems fine as long as we take of the ball and play at a quicker pace, which we have been doing the last 3 weeks.

Those are very impressive 3 point numbers !!

when our focus is working it into the post..the D sees that and
it opens up the three shot...a win for all ..that is all you pound it
in people and three point lovers.

Stauds 49% in conf...WOW.

I would not be surprise to see Stads leading the nation in three
percentage his Junior and senior years. Martin percentage has gone up this year also..i think it was about 35% his earlier years.

Did Sharps perfomance win a starting role from Qvale ?
what does everyone think?

I would love to see the Griz get a bye the first round..can we get
to 3rd or 4 th place...we will see if we can win the next few games.
especially Norhern Arz. Saturday.

Martin shot 38%, 36% and 37% (the same as Staudacher) from 3-point range in '05, '06 and '07. Martin shot a better percentage than Criswell over the two-year period that they played together. I remember seeing that once, and being surprised. Staudacher is a terrific shooter and has super shooting form (and stroke). He and the team need to need to figure out how to get him more shots.

Updated as of today 2/15/08.

The GRIZ are officially tied for 5th nationally at 3%, also ranked 21st in fg% and moving up fast the past 3 weeks. (according to ESPN.com)

This is not due to luck. It is due to the players finally getting on the same page as the staff. Teams have to pick their poison now against the GRIZ. Collapse the paint on Strait, Hasquet, Qvale, Sharp, now Vanderjagt and pay the price from the likes of Martin, Staudacher, Hasquet (when healthy), Sharp (of late). Also Rundles is capable of hitting the 3. Imagine how much better this team gets when Rundles gets back his game. :thumb:

if we continue to shoot at the percentage we should be poised to make a run in the Big Sky Tourney. Just take care of the ball on offense, keeping turnovers as low as possible will be key. Looking to see the griz in Denver!!

At 6-6 they better hope that 3% shooting continues to be high :)
